Building Projects
Caster’s Tower constructed in Misthaven by twin brothers Tomax and Xamot, late of the River Kingdoms. The two brought a small caravan of materials and personal possessions east after attending the Golden Dawn and purchasing a plot of land east of Tuskwater Keep. The tower went up quickly and the brothers began taking orders for various magic items, as well as signing on as part-time faculty at the academy.
The Month in Review
Misthaven had really only one thing on its plate in the month of May: Anton & Evelynn’s wedding. Local women and children made a big deal out of it, and there were more than a few bachelors of note where were at least a little disappointed that the fair maiden was no longer available. Attention on her sister grew, as obvious questions about her future plans became a common topic. The castle was decorated in preparation for the event, and patrols in the outlands stepped up to ensure that nothing would disrupt the happy day. Kincaid’s network of agents (well, okay, there are really only two of them, but ‘network’ sounds better) along with teams of Mistborn Rangers, kept and eye on the lands to the south where lizardfolk and, supposedly, trolls had been sighted.
All in all, the month went well, with building and economic projects proceeding apace, and the wedding dominating the headlines & conversations around town, and in the greater kingdom as a whole.

Comments
A thought of this month improvements, if we had the build points, I would like to see roads built too. I believe roads add to the economy of the kingdom. If possible, is like to see a highway going from olegs to misthaven, not just a road.
I like this format. At the end of it, be specific as to the month we are about to go into. My thought is this is where we would begin discussing our thoughts for the upcoming month.
I like the roads idea, and I would like to see the Temple of Erastil completed.
The temple is on the slate for June if I’m not missing the mark. It is going to cost half as there is already building material there, which I believe is going to be 8 BPs. Since that is outside a city, it doesn’t count against the number of buildings we can construct in a months time. Isn’t it now 2 buildings per city per month, and single improvements are unlimited? I could be wrong.
What else should we build building wise? I offered suggestions in the last post.
Here are your limits per month, based on the size of the kingdom right now: 2 hexes claimed, 1 city settled, 2 buildings (anywhere, of any sort!), 2 roads, 1 open space (farm, fort, the temple in this case). So the temple, in this case, would count as an open space project, and you could build 2 hexes of roads, claim 2 hexes, start the new city (you need to start it first, then you can add a building the next month), and build two city buildings anywhere you have an existing city.
Once Olegburg is settled, you could build 1 building there and 1 in Misthaven, or two in one of them. Your numbers will all go up once you hit 26 hexes in size.
Another FYI: the magic items are available until you either use your PC’s loot to buy them, or you roll during the Income phase to have them sold as part of generating economic activity. The only way they’d stay put is if none of you decided to buy them AND you decided to not roll to have them sold for BP…which would be dumb.
How many hexes do we control now? It has to be getting close to 26.
Also, if we made a double wide road from Olegton, to misthaven, does it continue to add to economy?
The kingdom currently has 15 hexes, and you can check that – and every other stat – on the Kingdom Record Sheet, linked from the main wiki page. And there’s no such thing as a superhighway in Pathfinder. You’re thinking too literally. There’s a road that’s relatively safe and stable connecting parts of the kingdom; that’s enough for economic development.
Is there a function for salaries? How do we ever have coin if we put everything back into the kingdom? Do we just keep some or all out of the loot or is there a mechanic for that?
Personal funds are separate from kingdom funds, so keep what you want. Remember that you’ll never have to pay for food, lodging, a horse, upkeep of your items, and storage of your stuff, either. But spending cabbage…you need to set aside money from your adventures to fund that.
Remember that from now on, with those item-generating buildings paying off, you’ll probably not need to put money back into the treasury.
So standard gear we can “requisition” for our selves for when we are going out to expand our kingdom? Those spy glasses are looking better and better all the time.
Along the same lines gentlemen, if you want Zion to enhance your equipment, to a +2 weapon, it will cost an additional 3000 gp. If you want something special like bane or fire, then you’ll need to supply scrolls so I can do it. Well, bane, defending, and fire I can do now, but things like electrical, or frost not so much.
Just so you know, Zion gave up his color spray ways in Liu of monster summon, and can toss fireballs around. Big-bada-boom. 4 booms per day.
What do you mean “standard gear”? Anything put into the treasury – items or coin – is permanently transformed into BP. If you make a withdrawal, it comes out in the form of GP, and the possibility of a pissed off population. Just making sure everyone’s clear on that.
And again: consider that you guys are going to be adding 20BP/month just for the items you sell, and that’s if you don’t add anymore buildings that produce items. That’s the same as depositing 20,000GP per month into the treasury…that’s just not going to happen.
In fact, I think that you should consider not putting coin you find into the treasury anymore. Why bother when you have a far more efficient means of earning income? And if you add the Magic Shop, you’ll add another 32BP/month just from that alone. Whoa. Keep the chump change for yourselves.
32BP a month?? Holy faeriepoop batman! Lets build the dang shop NOW!!!!!
We will need to save for a month. It’s going to cost 33 BPs to get the magic shop.
And lyle, I glommed onto your statement of we no longer need to worry about Horses. Horses seem to be almost like standard equipment as they are in the books. That’s why I was saying standard equipment. I wasn’t looking to have magical equipment in a special area that we can draw upon. No purchasing goggles of darkvision with BPs and “storing” them at the treasury.
I would think any standard gear that we would equip our Ranger force with would be available for the kings of the realm.
If we want to make withdraws from the treasury, we can. Yes we run the risk of upsetting the populace. The mechanic is command DC which ours is 33+ the number of BPs we want to withdraw. We’ll say 9000 so we can enhance 3 weapons to 2. The total DC would be 339= 42 the roll against this is our stability currently at 31 so we would need to roll an 11 to avoided unrest which equals the BPs withdrawn. Or 9 in this case.
So, if we want to make withdraws, then we really need to bump buildings that add to stability… Parks, jail, mansions etc. The higher the stability, the more we can withdraw easily.
Keep in mind though, every time we do make a withdraw, it automatically adds 1 to unrest. (No save)
I do not see the add to unrest really being worth it, do we really need to withdraw funds?
At this time, I don’t see a NEED, but it would be nice to be able to make withdraws from time to time as.the need arises.
Remember, kings: this desire to have the treasury door open just a little comes from the guy who spent all that time up north, spending money up north. It’s interesting to note that the kingdom’s most rapid growth has taken place after Zion’s return from his extended junket. It’s amazing how much water a bucket can hold when the hole in it is plugged!
It is also nice to see that when Zion came home, he was able to bring the lucrative contracts rolling in? The correct contacts made, and this economic boom we have is all due to Zions efforts to correctly expand the country rather than being a quaint little village surrounding a castle.
Hey, now, that “quaint little village” is my home. Be nice.
So, basically we are “californicating” the kingdom…wonderful.
Next month, I suggest we annex hexes 31 and 32. 32 is where I would like to build the eastern city, or as Jeremy was saying Zion-a-due. It is touched by the river so that will enable transport to and from during the summer months. And we can build a road there before the winter freeze comes in.
I also propose we each find a spot to build a city that we can convert as our own. Zion will be the center of Magic, Pic can have the holy city with a bunch of temples, Kincaid can have the garrison of rangers, and Anton can have the love shack with his new bride….
Ooh, ooh, we need to build a brothel next phase so we have a place to hold the Bachelor party… Grins.
I’m confused. I thought that you guys were going to convert Oleg’s into your next city. Remember that hex 32 is hill country, which will cost more to develop as a city hex, and will take a month to prepare – that means you’d spend to claim it, then spend to clear it, and have to wait until July to put the first building in place.
Oleg’s is ready to go, and I’ll do this for you, if you’re interested in building a city there: I’ll halve the build price of an Inn, a Stable, and a Shop, and throw in a free house. Looking at the map of Oleg’s, he has an inn, his own home, and a stable, and the place is called a ‘trading post.’ They’re not very big, so the added BP cost will account for expansion. The Inn, Stable, and Shop each require a house – so you’ll need to build 2 houses to support them.
All told it’ll cost you 20BP: that’s 3 for each of the add’l two houses, 4 for the Shop, and 5 each for the Stable and Inn. And the bonus you get from having the Carpenter does not factor in here, since that’s in Misthaven, many miles away.
And I’ll be even more nice by saying that all you need to do is build the houses (which you could do in a single month) and spend the other BP since those other structures are, for the most part, pre-existing.
Finally…personalized cities? I see a big invasion on the horizon, boys…personalized cities sound like hirelings to me….
We have already slated olegtom for city building, next month we start building in it. My proposal is to annex Tue hex I want zionadue to be built, then a month of clearing, then build. It shouldn’t interfere with the development of Olegton.
As to personalized cities, think of it as personal projects.not hirelings.
Copied over this comment from Thom from the original May post, which I have not cloaked:
With the ending stats, we have 35 BPs to spend.
June proposals.
Claim 2 more hexes in grass land. 2 BP.
Convert 1 to farm. 1 BP.
Build 2 road sections 2 BP.
Convert the other to a new city. (Zionadue) ? BP.
Build in misthaven town hall 10 BP
Build in misthaven park 4 BP
Olegton build blacksmith. 6 BP.
Thoughts?
Pet projects of lasting and ego-centered natures=NPCs=hirelings=you die, she dies, everyone dies.
What about the Temple of Erastil and the road to it?
The temple will cost you 16, since it’s actually ruins being repaired. And yes, this does break the rule of no city constructs in open spaces; however, it’s different because this was explicitly mentioned in the book as a cost-savings, so I’m okay with it.
And there is already a road connecting it to the main road. That was built a while ago.
Should we have spent a BP or 2 on the wedding? You know, building a chapel in the castle, or something similar?
Also, is Jhod properly instructed in the observance of alternate deities rituals and customs? I can’t see Sir Anton as a tree hugging hunter type follower of Erastil. Maybe a god of war, or protection.
BP? Nahh. You guys already pay for 6 festivals per year, and the wedding coincided with one of them. As for Jhod, he took a correspondence course a few years ago that gives him accreditation to officiate in multi-faith ceremonies, so long as all the deities involved are Good. He’s got the certification on record with Kingdom HR, so it’s cool.
Now that we have a fairly large amount on BP rolling into the city due to items sold, should we give a tax holiday? Or get rid of taxes all together? What bump to the economy do taxes provide?
