Ancestor Spells

Sense Ancestor (Ancestor Spell)

Sodan-senzo can sense the ties that bind the living to the Spirit Realms. With a successful Perception roll, you may perceive the presence of karmic bonds between ancestors and their descendants as well as between two living beings. You can identify any ancestor with a link to the living in their presence, and can recognize the presence of the Karmic Bond advantage as well as the other person who shares the bond. This spell allows you to see the Profession, Drive, and Devotion of the ancestor.

Commune With Ancestor (Ancestor Spell)
MASTERY LEVEL: 1

AREA OF EFFECT: One Ancestral Spirit

Sodan-senzo may speak with the spirits of the dead. A successful Awareness roll opens a dialogue with the targeted ancestor (who must be known to you, possibly via successful use of Sense Ancestor). Successful use of this spell allows you to ask the ancestor one question; the ancestor is honor-bound to answer, although the ancestor may not be particularly friendly about it. Good role-playing on your part may allow for further questions at the discretion of the GM.
Special Raises: One additional question per two Raises.

Summon Ancestor (Ancestor Spell)

Kitsu may summon the essence of ancestral spirits, suffusing their being with their power. Effectively, this spell allows you to benefit from ancestral advantages as if you had taken them at character creation. You may roll your Willpower to summon an ancestor. The TN to cast the spell is increased by the Devotion of the Ancestor times three. Ancestor creation rules and restrictions apply to this ancestor. Multiple ancestors may be summoned at one time, but you may only simultaneously summon a number of ancestors equal to your Honor Rank or School Rank, whichever is higher. You must fulfill the requirement of any summoned ancestor at least twice within one week; otherwise, the TN of all the Ancestor spells you cast are increased by ten for a week.

Commune

By casting this spell you may commune with a single kami in the area. If you cast Commune as an Air spell you contact a single Air kami, and so forth. You may ask one question of the kami which it will answer to the best of their ability. See pg. 239 for answer styles. May also be cast to determine spells cast nearby of Mastery lvl 1 within the last hour.
Special Raises: you may make one Raise to ask an additional question. You may make one Raise to get a more specific answer. You may Raise once to increase the Mastery lvl or spells detected by one, or sense an additional hour into the past.

Counterspell

This spell inmediately ends the effects of one other spell. Its use is somewhat complex. Pg. 240 for details

Sense

You gain a supernatural awareness of the elements around you. If cast as an Earth spell, for example, this spell reveals the location and types of all earth and stone within the radius. One particularly useful application of this spell is using it to find any living beings hiding within its small area. Living beings are composed of a mixture of all elements , so this spell reveals their presence and their general condition. This spell also senses the presence of spirits.

Summon

Area of Effect: One cubic foot
Range: 10’
With this spelly ou can summon one cubic foot of elemental matter. The element appears in the shape of a ball in an area of your choosing within range and hovers for as long as you maintain Total Concentration, afterward behaving normally. Summoned material must occur naturally.

Air Spells

Nature’s Touch

You enlist the Air kami’s aid in conveying thoughts and intentions between the minds of humans and animals. allowing you to make yourself understood to one creature.

Whispering Wind
Mastery Level: 2
Duration: Instantaneous
Area of Effect: Target person
Range: 10’
The thoughts of humans are simple for Air kami to perceive and the spirits view everything in basic terms. A quick prayer from a shugenja can discover if the last thing the target said was true or false.

Know the Mind
Mastery Level: 4
Duration: Full Concentration plus 1 minute
Area of Effect: Target person
Range: 20’
A successful casting of this spell allows you to sense the emotions of a target as well as their surface thoughts.

Call the Spirit
Mastery Level: 4
Duration: Instant
Area of Effect: 1 spirit creature
Range: 25’
This spell allows you to call forth a spirit from any place in the various realms. You need not know the spirit’s name, so long as you have some for of identity to go on. “The gaki that attacked this tea house last night,” is sufficient, for example. This spell requires extensive preparations and 10min to cast. The spirit appears in a visible form at a specified location with the spell’s range, and it will refuse to harm you for at least a number of rounds equal to your Insight Rank x5.

Earth Spells

Jade Strike
Mastery Level: 1

Range: 10’
You summon a bolt of energy that destroys the corruption of the Shadowlands. Because the spell summons a green light and burns Tainted individuals, though it is not solid. Untainted targets fell nothing at all. Tainted targets of this spell take 3k3 wounds.
Special Raises: You may raise once to increase the damage by +1k0. You may raise twice to declare an additional target

Fire Spells

Fury of Osano-wo
Mastery Level: 1
Duration: Instantaneous
Area of Effect: 1 target
Range: 100’
A bolt of lightning strikes the target from teh sky, dealing 3k2 wounds and forcing him and everyone within 10’ to make a Stamina roll at TN 10 or be deafened for two rounds. If this spell is cast during a storm, the damage is increased to 3k2 for a moderate storm or 4k3 during a strong storm.
Special Raises: You may raise twice to increase the damage of this spell by +1k0

The Fist of Osano-wo
Mastery Level: 3
Duration: 1 minute
Area of Effect: 50’ radius
Range: 100’
The area caught in this spell is subjected to repeated lightning strikes and vaguely fist-shaped bolts of flame that streak from the skies. Weak structures and those easily set on fire are destroyed by the spell’s fury. Anyone caught in the area of effect a 50% chance each round of taking XkX wounds, where x is your fire ring.

Water Spells

Fortune’s Turn
Mastery Level: 1
Duration: Instantaneous
Area of Effect: 1 projectile
Range: 200’
You may cast this spell on a single projectile in your line of sight, and you may cast it instantly as a reaction to the projectile being thrown or fired. It automatically misses, however you may not act on your next turn.

Rejuvenating Vapors
Mastery Level: 2
Duration: Instantaneous
Area of Effect: Target person
Range: Touch
The target of this spell is refreshed as if he had just had a full night of sleep, eliminating any fatigue penalties. The rest reinvigorates the mind as well, allowing shugenja to recover all their spells from the previous day. No person my benefit from this spell two days in a row.

Stand Against the Waves
Mastery Level: 2
Duration: 1 round
Area of Effect: 1 person or creature
Range: 50’
This spell grants one additional attack during the target’s next turn for each of the caster’s Insight Ranks. However, the target suffers a +5 TN penalty to all attack rolls while affected by this spell.
Special Raises: You may raise to increase the number of targets you can affect by 1 for each raise. You may also raise to increase the duration of the spell by 1 round for every 2 raises. You may grand an additional attack per roun to 1 target of your choice for every 2 raises called.

The Emperor’s Road
Mastery Level: 4
Duration: 5 hours per caster Insight Rank
Area of Effect: Any number of persons or creatures touched
Range: Touch
This spell functions only on roads that are legally recognized by the Emperor. All target may move at up to 6x their normal movement rate.
