I will very honestly say that I just make shit up. I do check things against the core books, but I’m not afraid to deviate where it better fits my concept. My Thousand Years of Darkness is not Alderac’s Thousand Years of Darkness. So I have to be kind of careful so as not to catch Arc up too much.
Also, these serve as an outlet for different character concepts I toyed around with before settling on Bakuryu.
Kakita Darsho, for example, I devised as a corruption of Hotsuma. The idea for the character is to completely corrupt the dynastic mentality and noblise oblige of the Crane. Whereas Hotsuma embodies the higher concepts of personal honor, Darsho was originally going to be a major headache for the Crane because he so literally adheres to the tenants of noble honor, such as: those of ignoble birth aren’t people so much as things, so you can behave however you want with them. He, like Hotsuma, would be an exceptional duelist, making it very difficult for those who object to his behavior morally to defeat him. I first envisioned him with a demented smile on his face, spattered in blood. I decided that he fit better as an antagonist than a PC, so I went ahead and incorporated him into Bakuryu’s history.
The third story will incorporate many different character concepts I’ve toyed around with.
