Banner is a military designation for the smallest group of soldiers. It originated in Kingdom of Dormeren and has quickly spread over to other Confederate nations as a way for the organization of armies. During the Second War of the Highborne the Confederate Council sanctioned the Banner as a part of the Confederate Armies organizational structure, which resulted in many of the Confederate nations reforming their own military structure to match that of the Confederate Army.
A Banner is a unit of soldiers with at least two members and at most fifty. The commanding officer must be a noble of at least Knight-Banneret or higher. The actions of a banner are considered to be equal to the actions of its commanding officer.
A banner is usually alligned to a noble House (and through the feudal system usually owes final fealty to their sovereign), however a practice in The Republic of Tarleigh which allowed knights to form Free-Banners, effectively mercenary companies, has spread over to most lands in South-Western Aleron.
