Le Ballet de l'Acier

The salle d’armes of the Scuola di Cavalcabo is situated a short distance from the Place de Lenche in Marseille. Named for Girolamo Cavalcabo, a Bolognese fencing master who published a treatise translated as Manuel d’un maitre Bolognais, traduit par le Seigneur de Villamont. Traite d’une épée de taille et d’estoc seule ou avec une cape ou un poignard, the school teaches the French style of fencing developed by Cavalcabo during his service at the court of Kings Henri III and Henri IV, where he was known as Hieronyme.

The school is frequented by many of the sword nobles of Marseille and enjoys an intense rivalry with the students and masters École Desbordes, resulting in dangerous duels between them.
