The Grenoblois fencing school Scuola de Scrimia, founded in 1622 is located near the Place des Cordeliers. A small salle des armes, the school draws its students primarily from among the sons of the Catholic magistrates who throng the city. Instruction in the Spanish and Italian fencing styles is offered, as is the use of polearms.

Students of the Scuola di Scrimia may be identified by a blue sash worn around the waist.
