Located in the Upper City, Trencavel’s Tavern enjoys the least savory reputation of all such establishments in Marseille. The tavern is large but dimly lit and dirty, the packed earth floors strewn with refuse, and thronged day and night by cutthroats, thieves, smugglers and pirates.

It’s well-known that the city guards avoid Trencavel’s.
