The Arcane Society is one of the oldest and most influential organizations on Lunaria. Though technically not a guild, they are more commonly known as the Mages Guild, as its members are almost all Lunarian Mages. The Society’s headquarters is The White Castle, the fortress that surrounds Lux Iris in White City.

Leadership

The Arcane Society is ruled by a council of five Archmages. They act more as ministers, each administering a certain facet of Lunaria, they make decisions on important matters by consensus, when possible, and by voting, when the matter is too controversial to form a consensus on.

While advanced within the society is based on one’s own merit, members will need more than that to become one of the Five. They must be of at least half-Lunarian ethnicity, as well as have the approval of the majority of the current council.

Membership

Most of the members are Lunarian Mages, graduates of one of the several Arcane Arts Universities in White City. The society is also known to take in non-mages, usually from a young age, to train as its own private armed force. They tend to favor those who show magical aptitude, who are trained as Mage-knights.

The guild’s membership fluctuates between 500-800, with around 75% mages.

Role

The Arcane Society is influential enough to act as Lunaria’s government. It is most influential in the city-state’s foreign affairs, and White City’s Administration. The Merchants Guild, multitudes larger and richer, takes care of Black City’s Administration, as well as law-keeping.

The Arcane Society rarely directly intervenes with most matters, preferring to contract jobs out to the many adventuring guilds within the city.
