Astonishing X-force #2
“Raid on Ryker’s Island Part 1”
Recap by by Wolverine:
Peter.
Colossus.
My friend.
His name is the first on the list from the raft.
And hes dead.
Supposedly, anyway.
We’ve both been declared dead more than once.
So im not entirely shocked at the idea.
Part of me wonders if this is real, still.
And the other part of me wonders how it happened?
Magic, clones, his death was faked…
It could be any of these things.
I hope its real, and I hope its really him.
I look at the team Scott assembled.
And try to think of how I view them all.
Emma, his girlfriend. I still see her as the white queen, leader of the Hellfire club. An enemy for many years. And a powerful telepath. I REALLY hate people who can mess with my head. With as little memory as I have, can you blame me? Charles earned my respect. Emma not so much. Hell, I still cant get the image of her walking around in the stripper discount warehouse out of my mind. So pretty much still filed under “enemy” status.
Bobby, Sunspot, isn’t much better. He was a student of Charles for years. Sam, Xian, Rahne and Danielle all fought along side him. And he had my back once or twice. But he got mixed up in the hellfire club too. And that makes him circumspect. Im still not sure where his motives lie. So I have to file him under “enemy” since im not sure.
Nathan summers. The grown up time traveling son of Scott. And im not entirely sure hes sane. I know, hard to believe from me, right? But you cant have gone through all he has and not be untouched. Hell, the last few years of my life have left me barely functional. But hes loyal, and most of the time I can trust him. Honestly, the only one of this group I’d be willing to label as a “friend”, more likely I just consider him less of a threat.
And then there is the waste of oxygen, wade. A pale copy of me, literally, his DNA augmented with stolen scraps of mine. If Cable is nutty, Deadpool is bat shit insane. He talks to people that aren’t there. I know I can beat him in combat. And I know how to permanently kill him, if needed. We’ve fought way too many times for me to consider him anything other than an “Enemy”. I wonder if I cut off his head how long will his mouth keep talking? And will he make any more or less sense? I may have to try it out and see.
So not the most happy team I’ve worked with.
But god, peter. Alive.
I don’t pray much, if ever. Im not sure if I even believe in the traditional concept of a god, given what I’ve seen, and how many so-called gods I’ve fought against and alongside. But part of me is praying that this time, some higher power or something has spared the life of my friend.
Maybe Peter will get a happy ending.
Cable is in a private room in the X-mansion. He leaves a handwritten note on his desk. “I’m sorry Scott” in boxed text. “The future needs me” a portal opens and Cable has gone on an adventure.
Splash page: explosion on Ryker’s island. Pan back to see our heroes in civilian guise at the port looking at it in the distance. Deadpool fiddles with his teleportation device trying to get everyone to the other side and it fails. Emma Frost mind controls a local harbor man to use his speed boat to get them across the water to the prison.
Arriving at the site of the explosion, our heroes fought Silver Samurai, Razor Fist and the Brothers Grimm alongside 2 SHIELD Agents. Sunspot, naturally of course, charged in with the first punch to Razor Fist. Silver Samurai was shamed by Logan into submission. Deadpool faced off against the Brothers Grimm with their…pies. The whole group was targeted by the Brothers Grimm and their exploding pies but turned them back onto them. Emma mentally assaulted Razor Fist to the point that a well placed insult from Deadpool finished him off. The SHIELD Agents thanked the heroes for their help and rushed upstairs saying the orders were to head upstairs and contain the riot. However, our heroes slipped down the stairs toward the research lab.
Entering the research lab, our heroes saw numerous dangerous weapons including the hammer of Thor. Standing in front of that was the Wrecking Crew.

Cover Art: Wrecking Crew facing off against X-force
Emma steps forward assaulting the minds of the Wrecking Crew with fearsome images of the capacity of the X-force for violence gleaned from the mind of Razor fist. All of them run except for Thunderball. Wolverine says “boo” while popping claws and he runs.
The team looks over the hammer of Thor. Sunspot tries to lift it and gets flashes of all the people he ever hurt after losing his temper. Deadpool tries to lift the hammer…and picks it up. The team is flabbergasted. Heading downstairs, the group finds a group of 3 holding cells. One has been destroyed, one holds an unconscious man, and the third holds Peter Rasputin. Peter is talking gibberish and is confronted by Wolverine. Peter starts to attack Wolverine but is forced to back down. Documents show that the cells hold Clint Barton aka Hawkeye and that the final cell was Karl Lykos aka Sauron, old enemy of the X-men.
Later: The group is disembarking from the blackbird. Before the group can explain how it is the came back with an extra person and the hammer of Thor when Karnilla Queen of the Norns. She says that she owed a favor to Deadpool’s father and that is why he can lift the hammer (he’s Asgardian) and offers him Wrecker’s crow bar in exchange. Deadpool now uses a crow bar instead of a katana. Wolverine brings Colossus into the mansion while Emma goes to check on Kitty.
Epilogue: Cable is pinned down under enemy fire in a post-apocalyptic future. He sends a distress call that he knows will not be answered.
