Mass Effect: Blackwell

The turians have avian features, which give them a resemblance to birds or raptors. The turian genetic code is based on dextro-amino acids. If they ingest human food, which is based on levo-amino acids, they may enter anaphylactic shock. The soldiers that occupied the Alliance colony of Shanxi during the First Contact War had all it’s food imported, at great logistical expense.

They are brave warriors, and skilled in combat, but are not easily spurred to violence. They are a dutiful race that will do whatever it takes to get the job done. Their officers follow a rigid code of honor and strict discipline, treating prisoners and conquered enemies humanely. Turians will never willingly leave one of their own behind. Turians are also noted for their strong sense of public service, and it is rare to find one who puts his needs ahead of the group.

Though they were the last of the Citadel races to join the Council, they are generally regarded as the most progressive. Their culture is based on a hierarchical meritocracy, so changes are quickly accepted by the leadership and then adopted by the rest of their society. They have a highly regimented and organized society giving turians strict discipline and a strong work ethic. If an order is given, it will rarely be disobeyed. Promotions are based on the assessments of superiors and peers. Each member of the Council of Hierarchs commands an entire star cluster.

Turians embrace the concept of ‘œtotal war’. They will not skirmish or battle on a small scale. They prefer using massive fleets and large numbers to defeat an enemy. Their victories are so thorough that they remove any possibility of fighting the same opponent twice. After destroying an enemy’™s military capabilities, they will colonize those that remain.

They are roughly the same size as humans, but with lighter bones and a hard, natural, chitinous mask covering their faces.

Racial Edges & Hindrances
  • Radiation Resistant: A turian’s reflective, plate-like skin makes them less susceptible to the effects of radiation. All turians gain +4 to Vigor rolls made against any radiation-related effect.
  • Steadfast: Turians are considered some of the most brave and steadfast warriors in the galaxy. All Turians start with a d6 in Spirit.
  • Hollow Bones: Turians have a lightweight bone structure that promotes quickness and agility over brawn. All Turians subtract 1 from their Toughness due to their easily-broken bones.
