Gestalt: Two Be Or Not Two Be

If you begin with our last example of having a starting experience of 1,300,000 then you can chose to play a single class ECL of 17 or a Gestalt ECL of 16. For our purposes, let’s go this time with the Gestalt option and pay the 60 Player Reward Points (PRPs).

ECL with Gestalt

Having decided to choose Gestalt, the process for monster race selection is very similar, except that your target you may not exceed is now 16. Since I am feeling rather brutish today, I want to make a massive beast of a character and choose a hill giant. The Hill Giant has a CR of 7 and 10 HD. Since we take the higher of the two, the ECL for the Hill Giant is 10. This leaves me with 7 ECL levels to fill with Gestalt. I chose Fighter/Barbarian 7. This should strike just the type of monstrosity I am looking for!

Rule

When selecting the Gestalt Option with the Monster Race option you must count the Monster ECLs as Gestalt experience as well as the Gestalt class levels since both classes benefit from the Monster Race.
