Campaign Geography

Our campaign will begin within the borders of the Realm of the Mammoth Lords. This land is located in the far central north of Avistan. This region is a savage no-man’s-land, a wilderness as yet unclaimed by anyone.
This land is not only beset from within by large and monstrous creatures, but it is bordered on all sides by hostile forces. Immediately to the south is the Hold of Belkzen, home of the great Orc spawning pools. To the west come the servants of the hated Witch Queen and her foul Winter Witches. To the east, the Worldwound pulses and slowly expands the borders of its foul influence. To the north is the great icewall, beyond which lies Shadowhold, the mortal stronghold of Izrador himself, and the accursed training halls of the dreaded legates.
The Realm of the Mammoth Lords is also marked by extreme differences in climate. The western half of the land is covered in ice and snow year round, with snow storms that constantly blow in from Irrisen and the frozen northlands. The Tusk Mountains separate the land in two, protecting the eastern half from the worst of the snows. The eastern half of the realm remains relatively snow-free. It is also home to many hot springs and active volcanoes, and many parts of the eastern half of the realm are quite warm.
Notable Areas
Hillcross: Hillcross was once a great meeting place for the old Mammoth Lords, but is now a vast, sprawling mountain city that is situated in the largest pass through the Tusk Mountains. In fact, it is the only large city in the entire realm. All trade that comes through the realm usually comes through Hillcross, and its tax collectors grow fat from the work of others.
Icestair: Once a large, permanent settlement, Icestair is now a shadow of its former glory. Traders used to have their caravans lifted up to the top of the Winterwall Glacier by great winches in order to gain access to the northern trade routes, but the coming of Izrador changed that. The northern routes were seized and Icestair with them. An ancient tien bureaucrat named Po La ran the settlement and the dark lord was generous and let Po La continue to do so…forever, as an undead minion. Po La and his retinue of undead workers continue to maintain and operate the great winches of Icestair, but the caravans only come in to supply Shadowhold.
