After being expelled from the city for a period of one year, the party head north. Kiton and Sir Gabriel are riding through the deep snow, the rest of the party are walking, after 3 hours both horses stumble and then Kiton and Sir Gabriel walk their horses as well.
They don’t travel ½ as far that day as they would have before the snow fell.
That night some of the party have a poor night’s sleep and walk up frozen, those that have access to magical warmth have a good night’s sleep. When Turin tries to persuade Mindy the cleric of Sif to help the others, she points out that it’s an article of faith that, “you have learn from experience, and if they are mollycoddled they will not learn how important these skills are.
The next day half the party are cold and tired from a poor night’s sleep. Julian had prepared some herbs that would let him sleep and reduced the time needed to sleep; when Julian wakes up he heals the frost bite on him.
The next night they arrive at the inn, were Sir Gabriel and Kiton are welcomes, but Turin and Julian are barred.
The entertainment from the Bards is mediocre at best, until Mindy starts to sing and puts at the others to shame, a smitten half Orc comes over to get to know her … looks at Sir Gabriel and goes and sits back down. Strangely Mindy’s lodgings are free that night.
It gets to about noon and the party comes to a small clearing, hanging from two trees are two female forms (one blonde, one dark haired) hung by their necks and swinging gently in the breeze. Their eyes have been gouged out. Sir Gabriel and Kiton realize that the bodies are swaying in the wind and there is no wind.
Turin goes forward to cut them down, glaring at Kiton as he goes to help.
As Turin approaches the bodies the illusion drops, a female voice (the female torturer from the mansion) says, “Let me take your breath away” as she creates a vacuum near the clerics and fighters. The cleric of Apollo is stunned, the cleric of Sif drops to the ground with a broken neck, the Kiton is stunned, Sir Gabriel gets punctured with an arrow from a goblin archer and is stunned badly, and Turin gets an arrow in the stomach from a second archer
The cleric heals himself and loads a sling stone, as soon as the stone is loaded he casts Dancing Lights (Lights Creation Lvl 1) which mesmerises the goblins and sends the stone at the approaching knights (the stone exploding because of the magic of the sling)
One of the knights approaches Turin to finish him off.
As Sir Charme, Sir Brace and Sir Montel approach the party, Julain gets off a stun spell (“by Apollo’s light be stunned”), dropping the knight approaching Turin.
Sir Gabriel charges Sir Charme to help Lady Sharla who is fighting Charme and Brace (sending Kiton to the floor as he barges past him).
Julian and Sir Gabriel shake off the vacuum this time and Julian channels his magic at the sorcerer with a roar of “Raahhhh”, he stuns her again.
Sir Gabriel seems to be unable to hit Charme, and Lady Sharla is being battered by Brace.
Turin finally manages to shake off the stun and gets up and starts to cast a spell, as he gets up the magic he summons sends a shock bolt at the fighter, sending him crashing to the ground.
Sir Gabriel shouts, “by Thor’s might” and all of the party feel stronger and more able to fight.
There is another exchange of blows and spells, with neither side making much headway.
As Julian casts Chromatic Globe at the sorcerer he shouts, “By Apollo’s light be blinded” and the sorcerer is blinded for approximately 30 seconds. Just as the ability to see leaves her eyes she manages to summon and earth elemental to aid her allies.
Sir Gabriel calls on Thor’s might to protect them and the party all get +4 to RR
Sir Charme calls on his dark god and parries the blow of Sir Gabriel, as the sword flies out the way Charme lands a thundering blow to Sir Gabriel’s shield arm shattering it. Sir Gabriel hits Sir Charme and stuns him for a round.
Kiton puts an arrow into the Sorcerer, slicing into her leg sending her to the ground stunned.
Turin casts earth to dust at the earth elemental, which sends it back to the ground.
Sir Gabriel casts a spell with a shout of, “Lord Thor protect me”, Sir Gabriel is not sure if it was the power of the spell or not, but at that point the Sorcerer taps into the arcane magic of an item and she and the knights are magically teleported away.
Julian heals most of the wounds of the party, with magic and herbs after removing arrows from people. Julian uses a herb to accelerate the healing of the cleric’s neck.
Julian then casts a ritual on Sir Gabriel to heal his shattered arm.
Mindy makes up everyone’s camp and everyone has a night’s rest (they are on full hit points in the morning)
In the morning Turin puts a blindfold (which he claims is magicalon as is guided west, until he reaches the river and he then turns north.
Julian gets everyone to hold hands as they are led by the blindfolded Mage. Eventually Turin comes to a bridge across the river and turns right, relying on his memory to take him to Lisa’s house.
5 minutes later Turin reaches the low wall that goes around the homestead, and follows the wall until he finds the entrance in.
As they enter the farmstead, they find that both building have been burnt to the ground. All the herbs were ripped up, and the forge taken apart, however there are no bodies to be found.
Turin discovers that there is powerful mentalist magic in the farmstead to prevent detection. Julian tries to dispel the fog, which does not succeed. Julian notices that some carefully selected tools were missing from the destroyed workshop.
Julian puts a rope around Kiton and asks him to carry out into the fog a box with anti-magic properties. Kiton goes out opens the box and nothing happens, he then close the box and comes back in.
Turin tries to attune to the Mask and does not sense anything else apart its natural magical nature.
Sir Gabriel stores Hammerstrike in his sword.
Turin leads the party to the village while wearing the Mask on. They check the church of Thor and find that it has been desanctified. There does not seem to be anything else wrong with the church. They also find out that no one knows Father Bishop Doorknut. When they return to the church a second time they find the building is no longer a church.
They meet a soldier who they talk to, and he tells them the mist has just risen today.
Julian floats up into the air (counting as he does), he rises a couple of hundred feet before he can no longer see anything in the mist. He then floats back down.
The eventually decide to head north and visit granny, with the blindfolded Turin leading the way they follow the river and reach the burnt out remnants of the cottage. The party find the crucified broken (all the bones in the body are broken) of an old women.
Turin de-ices and shatters the ground so they can bury the old woman.
Kiton checks the remains of the house and discovers the house has had faeces splattered all over the place.
They are about to return to the village when an arrow comes flying out of the trees striking Julian. The party takes cover in the remains of the cottage. As time passes Kiton uses his magical ring to go invisible and using the parties own footprints to disguise his, he sneaks out.
Julian heals himself as Kiton looks for the archer, unfortunately he cannot find him.
The party head towards the waterfall. As they get there they are not able to climb up as the ice on the slope prevents them. Turin vaporises the Frozen water and they are able to climb up, unfortunately the ice that was going to stop the wind is now gone and the party are half frozen that night from the icy wind. Mindy sets up a camp and prepares dinner.
After a cold night in the cave, the party head back to the town. As they walk back an arrow comes out of the woods and strikes Mindy in the side.
Eventually the party reaches town and goes towards the keep, at the gates of the keep the meet Barak and ask him some questions.
Julian, “there been any trouble around here”
Barak, “No, it’s been quiet”
Turin, “Any knights or anything like that”
Barak, “Not that I’m aware of”
Julian, “There was some trouble north of here, and someone’s been killed”
Barak, “Orcs?”
Julian, “Trolls”
Barak, “I’ll let the village guard know to keep a lookout”
Julian, “There is something unnatural about the mist”
Barak has his I don’t believe you face.
Julian, “What happened to the church?”
Barak, “What church? Oh the one just outside of town, to Demeter?”
Julian, “Where’s that?
Barak points west
Barak goes and gives orders for Julian’s room to be made up
They visit the church of Demeter but don’t get any useful information from her.
They look around and find the church is spotless, but well stocked
The party head over to the alchemist’s shop, inside is alchemist they killed. They make polite chit chat and find out the mist came up this morning.
Julian goes to a shell of a house and Meditates on cleansing any outside interference on him. Although it doesn’t seem to have an effect, then Julian tries to figure out through his navigation skill and tricks of the trade where the centre of the fog is and works out it is ½ mile south of the village. After a discussion amongst the magic users in the group, they decide that the collective disbelieve of the villagers is the reason the fog is lighter here.
Turin tries to persuade one of the guards to let him see Wilke’s, but to no avail. Julian finds 3 new gravestones in compound of the castle (of Wilke’s wife and children).
Sir Gabriel gets a room at the Inn for a silver a night and Kiton gets one for 5 bronze. Turin stays at the Inn for free as there is a rich knight staying and his money is covering for the room.
That night the party are invited for a meal with the Mayor and his retainers, the food is good and the company pleasant. The next day when the party get up, Julian remembers that yesterday was a nice clear day (the rest of the party resisted the spell, but not by enough to know a spell was cast).
Julian does his pastoral duties for the town, healing people etc. Turin and Kiton head out of the town (until they are clear of the fog), where Turin launches a shock bolt 200 feet up into the air to get Lisa’s attention. Turin and Kiton wait around for a bit but no one comes towards them. Suddenly an arrow (one of Kiton’s) comes out of the woods and strikes Kiton in the leg (stunning him and ripping the muscle).
Turin tries to persuade the archer to stop firing arrows at them and help them find Lisa (the archer stops firing at them, but doesn’t help). Turin and Kiton head north and reach the mountains, when they get there Turin releases another bolt.
A few hours later a party of 6 large trolls, 19 ogres and 69 orcs coming towards them following the curvature of the mountains (towards where the shock bolt came from). Kiton and Turin head south until the war band passes. In the morning they head back to the town.
When they get to the town Julian (who is even more under the mentalist’s (whoever that is) power) rips the arrow out and then heals the wound.
Turin to Julian, “How’s it going in the keep”.
Julian, “Going fine”
Turin, “How’s the healing going?”
Julian, “He’ll be fine in a little bit”
Turin, “Do you require any of the magical items I’ve been keeping for you?”
Julian, “You kept for me?”
Turin, “We’ve been adventuring for the last month together”
Julian, “I think you have me mistaken for someone else”
Julian does a quick examination and says, “You don’t seem to be affected by any condition, but it’s a bit difficult to tell of your race.”
Turin, “How are the rest of our friends. Gabriel and Mindy”
Julian, “They are fine”
Turin, “Sharla”
Julian, “Doing good.”
Julian and Kiton talk to Sharla (who doesn’t recognize them) and Sir Gabriel that does.
Kiton, “We have a huge problem on our hands”
Turin to Sir Gabriel, “The cleric doesn’t remember us, neither does Sharla, but you and Mindy do. There must be some spell on the place affecting them.”
Sir Gabriel, “Evil magic does not affect the pure of heart”.
Julian hears his wife calling him for dinner; he goes to one of the guards if he’s seen her. The guard informs him, she’s just left for their house next to the Inn. Turin sees him and walks out the Inn towards him, mumbling the words to a spell.
Julian chats to the couple that live in the house; Turin casts him into sleep and they carry him out of town.
Outside of town, Julian’s memory returns. The discuss the situation in the town and figure out that if you were affected, you could remember the people who spent the night in the town, but not people who were out of the town.
Leaving Sharla behind the party head north and find the encampment at the foot of the mountains of a large Troll, orc and Ogre war party.
Julian calls down a hawk, a large metal hawk that had been flying above. Julian tries to get it to lead them to Sarah, but it does nothing. The party figure out the bird is probably from another plane of existence and has powerful chaotic and mentalist magic in it. Julian and Turin ask the hawk in human and elven respectively, “Is it here to lead them.” After a few minutes it flies of towards the north, as they follow it, they find that trees have been cut down and a fortified camp is in place around the entrance of the entrance to the Kobold’s home.
Sir Gabriel asks, “Are we supposed to go into the camp”.
The hawk leads them away.
Eventually they decide to head back and ask to come in, but have second thoughts as they start to head in. Kiton warns them it’s a trap. The party quickly retreats from the camp. The camp sends some scouts out to kill them.
