Into the Mouth of Doom.

September 17, 2012 02:47

After exploring the rest of the surrounding area and fighting a small nest of Stirges, the party headed South and came upon the Mouth of Doom on a desolate hillside that not bore not a bit of the surrounding forests growth. A giant leering demon’s face with a dark stairway going down it’s very throat.

In the chamber below, the party was met by an odd Pseudodragon, Vermithrax, who was happy to help them avoid some nasty traps. Within the dungeon they have found skeletons, pit traps, falling portcullises…

At least one room seems to be barred shut, all attempts to force entry have thus far failed. Another room, which seemed to house a lone skeleton turned out to be inhabited by a Gelatinous Cube.

Some poorly crafted art objects appear to depict the ‘glorious’ days of the Temple of Orcus.

And then disaster struck. In a large room lit by pits of green flame, a large poisonous snake attacked and killed the Oracle Damien. In the battle which followed, Argos and Fenrir were also struck and downed. Elysia asked Vermithrax to use the party’s healing wand to help the fallen adventurers while she bravely led the serpent on a chase out of the dungeon. Fenrir was healed but it was too late for the others and they had to be left behind in order to ensure the survival of the rest of the group who are limping their way back to Zelkor’s Ferry.

Holy sh*t! Are they dead-dead?

Yes. The snake returned and ate them both, but they were dead-dead before that happened anyway.
It was a very tough snake.

I wasn’t even rolling that high with the damage dice…

Critically hit by the giant snake…not that high damage dice my ass vs our puny level 1’s

I was actually rolling below average on the dice. It had a huge damage modifier… in your case I think the doubled modifier would have dropped you to 0 by itself.:/

So we should take a few ranks in “snake charming”, eh?

So the damage dice really had nothing to do with it, its bonus to its dice did us in. So high rolling or low rolling didn’t mean much overall.

How are we going to handle our wizard not being here for 2 months? The game going on hiatus?
