Journal Home – Bitter Mumblings

Entry 5 – 7/18/08

With the mayor and his wife dead, the city council appointed the new mayor whose name eludes me. He delivered a great speech wherein he aimed to scare the populace into fearing magic users as he outlawed (apparently temporarily) their arts. Something about that guy doesn’t strike me well. A watchful eye, on him, I will keep.

Vigo’s still on our case. I have taken it upon myself to walk out of the room when he shows up.

An Altherian monk has joined our motley group. He actually was looking for the lass with some sort of delivery, but hasn’t yet given it to her as far as I can tell. I’m interested to see if his monk skills are on par with those of my brethren. Let’s face it, probably not. Humans. So unimpressive.

I’m itching at the bit to investigate the sewer goblins. Let’s see how my partners fair when they get dirty.

After the outlawing of magic, we went to see the Elf that’s head of the mage guild to get his perspective. I found him to be surprisingly calm about the situation, with the attitude that he basically will only have to refrain from using magic for a few days before having the restrictions lifted. I don’t share his optimism. And the lass and soldier seem to think some king from some faraway island is here trying to kidnap a bunch of magic users. Sounds like a fey tale to me.

Maybe the highlight of the whole day was when the new monk nearly got incinerated by a toddling human. One of Vigo’s crates was smashed upon the river banks and magic items were strewn everywhere, so the locals commenced to claiming them. The boy found a wand and went to work. I was able to get it from him before he hurt anyone else. I don’t know if I should fear the idea of powerful weapons spread amongst the city, or love it. I’m leaning toward loving it.

We figure the crates were being transported via river and suspect the sewer goblins are involved. And since everyone thinks it’s SOOOO important to get the other crates back, we’re off to investigate.
