Death From Above
The path of light has the strangest twists and turns.
Dead men falling from the sky…
A seemingly competent Milandisian guardsman…
Magic being practiced openly…
And possibly most surprising, was a couple of excellent ideas from the highborn female.
Rumors that the dead woman of this town might be a witch with a bounty on her head, that the death might have been a druid ritual, or the action of sewer goblins, or even that she isn’t dead at all.
Personally, the sewer goblins bear a striking resemblance to rumors of swamp goblins that I heard as a child. Short, green and brown, with their appearances being subtly different for each observer. I can’t explain it, but my gut tells me there is considerable truth to this rumor. If the rest of what I think I know about swamp goblins is true, then I actually hope I am wrong. While discussing the swamp goblins with the the female, it was also very interesting to discover that both the Milandisian cities and the Coryani countryside experiences stories of crop patterns.
That Captain Tugberth definitely seems competent. He certainly handled the highborn one handily. She pushed him a bit too far and got to spend her evening in the local prison. I hope that seriously changes her outlook on law and her ability to be above it. Tugberth certainly seems interested in solving the crime of murder, but he is somewhat less concerned with the loss of our caravan. He seems to be handling the overall situation fairly. Particularly when the dead body of the mayor dropped out of the sky. At least it didn’t land on one of us.
Had Lllyowynn Silverbreath not been right there, and seemingly have read our minds, we might have seriously been suspects in the death of the mayor. Which brings me to wondering just what, in Illiir’s name, is going on when a group of arcanists will throw their works around openly and not worry about the SK coming to carry them off. Maybe Silverbreath can give us some answers.
And what of Darith, the local priest of Sarish? He seems also very helpful. He seems also to not really know what is up with the Arcanists of Yarrvek. I am also not sure just why Delahk and the girl were so surprised at how Darith and I interacted, we are joined spiritually, although we may be separated politically.
Finally, and most surprisingly, I was taken aback when the patrician girl actually made a couple of good suggestions. The idea that magic had been a part of stealing the wagon, the idea to discuss such things with the local Sarishans, and I wasn’t upset with her decision to push the guardsman, so the rest of us could actually have some quiet.
How is it that so many of my assumptions about Onara can prove wrong so rapidly?
I can only imagine what Illiir’s first light will bring tomorrow!
