Talky Talky Stabby Stabby
Journal Home – Bitter Mumblings
Entry 6 – 8/8/08
It seems our party’s tendency to endlessly walk around and talk to people with limited capacity to answer us is not so endless. Sure, we chit-chatted with random picnickers and the dock’s harbor master, and got few answers, but at least we got a little action.
We investigated downstream from the site where we found the broken chest, which lead to the docks. Apparently the port is shut down until this whole murder thing blows over. Dead end.
I’m nearly convinced that the new, temporary mayor, with his powers to suspend magic and close the docks, has something to do with these missing crates and the assassinations. Kill the mayor, gain power. Use power to coerce the public and steal a bunch of magic items, which can then be used for a stronger hold on the public or as bargaining chips in another realm of politics…maybe even with the SK that Varius so often points out.
We head upstream, as Tugberth seems to have another strong murder suspect and agrees to let us temporarily leave the city. We find bits and pieces of the broken crate as we travel, so we are sure that some answers are ahead. We rest for the night and shortly after we resume the journey, we are surprised by orc archers fortified in treetops, ringing a gong. We fall back, throw together a plan, then go kick some smelly green ass. There were only a handful of them, and weak ones at that. Something more must lie beyond the waterfall we’ve reached.
A side note…Varius and I are developing a series of hand signals for nonverbal communication. These will come in handy, for sure. I should remember to write them down. We also speculate that maybe Vigo (never trusted th’bastard, anyway) is the Captain’s new suspect. Maybe it’s the new mayor guy, too, but I doubt the Captain has the gall, or even brains, to suspect him.
PS – The Legions lose points for not teaching their soldiers to carry a frackin’ ranged weapon!
