Everyone has their slip-ups sometimes. Everyone except me, I’m not allowed to have them. This is for 2 main reasons.
1) I don’t have time or wiggle room for slip ups. clumsy assassins tend to wind up dead
2) Whenever I “slip-up”, the situation usually winds up being significantly worse than something a small accident could have caused
Today, I was infiltrating the manor of the Chellish mayor to become familiar with the layout of the building and to set myself up a back door. I came across some intel that the mayor had acquired a possession of value and interest, and figured that it was highly likely that someone would ask me to steal it. Never hurts to be prepared. This was a good night to do it because the Mayor was hosting a party, and while security was likely to be higher than usual, they would be distracted with party guests and mostly confined to other areas of the house.
Unfortunately, the party was a little wilder than I had initially imagined. I wound up trying to slip through the rafters over the party, to try and gain access to some of the back rooms, but unfortunately, I ‘slipped’ on one of those snake things that seemed to be occupying everyone below.
Of course I couldn’t just land on a table and get ridiculed by increasingly intoxicated party guests and chased off into the night by guards. I had to land in a Handy Haversack. what was a handy haversack doing around there anyway?
Fortunately I was able to hold my breath for a long enough time to be rescued from the depths of the bag. Once rescued, I decided to just go along with whatever happened. I had a killer headache just to remind me how angry my lungs were about the whole oxygen deprivation thing, and I was thoroughly unsure of what was going on. There were Succubi’s and other horrible monstrosities, but they were all so friendly and not soul-munching (which is good, because according to urban legend thats my job).
when things finally started to clear up, i had apparently ‘defeated my fears’(glados imp thingy), gained a small crux-thingy, and apparently had made a promise to work for some strange new faces. eh, I guess I’ll see how this works out. Another day, another job…
