The stories say life itself was gifted to us by the Mother, ripping us away from her embrace, and she waits patiently for us to return at the end of it. The Lorn Mother is a Goddess of Life and of Death; it is said she creates the souls of all newborn creatures and then waits patiently in the afterlife for all her beloved children to return to her at life’s end.

By her very nature Micia is more distant than any of the other gods. The Mother rarely manifests or takes any direct action in the world beyond granting her clergy her gifts. However,her clergy know that everyone will meet her in the end. Many of her priests and faithful are midwives or morticians; to bring life into the world and to assist in taking it out are both considered holy practices.

The Dirges: The Dirges are not an officially recognized sect of the Lorn Mother’s clergy. They are not officially endorsed by the various churches of The Goddess of Loss and Longing. The idea that there are Cleric-assassins who devote themselves to sending people back to the Lorn Mother’s embrace is hotly denied by anyone within any of Micia’s churches, who openly condemn such behavior.
