Hapwater Glen
Hapwater Glen
Hapwater Glen is a small town on the edge of Valiton on the north western border. The town and its surrounding area is under the control of a Theo Hapwater, a bitter old man whose paranoia is well known and getting worse in his old age.
The town itself is fairly small, with a population around 1,950 people. There are a few roads within the town, and a variety of shops to explore.
Within the town, there are five blacksmiths, each selling their own quality products. All but one, Warrior’s Sharp Pointy Stick, are located along the towns northwestern wall. Warrior’s is located just outside the north gate along the road to Muckwick. Within the town itself, Excellent Axe, General’s Axe, Alterra’s Weapon and Pleasant Blacksmith are all situated in the same general vicinity along the northwestern wall of town, though each occupies its own building.
While the arcane arts are outlawed within Valiton, there are a few scrolls and potion stores within Hapwater Glen. The owners claim to be divinely influenced, and are otherwise left alone by the town guard and imperial army.
If one is looking for entertainment, Redish’s Keg often has seats open, and at 5 and 6 pm there are a few bards that play regularly, though the tavern itself is only open until 7 pm. Myla’s Mug is a good place to eat for breakfast and lunch, and possibly an early dinner, but they shut their doors around 4 in the afternoon. The Frosty Jewel is open from 9 am until 7 pm, and serves a fine evening meal. Stately Wine, owned by Zuboko Gorbgo, has a bard that plays daily from 1 pm until close at 5.
If one is looking to buy some fine jewelry, the town offers an assortment of five jewelers, each with their own unique style. Noble Coral typically sells their wares at a discount, Glorious Jade marks up their wares well above the normal market value. The other shops, Grandiose Citrine, Becraft’s Jewel and Luxurious Present are all somewhere in the middle.
The seven general stores in town all sell everyday items. Craftman’s Nails marks up their items, and are typically closed between noon and 1 pm for lunch at Redish’s Keg. At the Crusty Shovel, the Lovewell’s sell their wares for a minor discount, and eat lunch between 1 and 2 pm at the Stately Wine. General Gathering is a store that most townsfolk visit, their prices are right around market value, and he store remains open during normal lunch hours. Soldier’s Market is owned by a husband and wife, Myla and Many Findle. Their prices are among the lowest in Hapwater Glen, and they remain open for lunch. Farmer’s Net sells a variety of exotic items, and rightly mark them. The proprietor closes shop between noon and 1 pm so he can take his daily lunch at the Frosty Jewel. Wonderful Market is run by the Habets, a family of 4. They remain open for lunch, and their prices are about right. The last store in town, Lacenor’s Concessions, marks up their items, making them the most expensive store in town. The owner, Lacenor Hoyt, eats lunch daily from 1 pm until 2 at the Frosty Jewel.
There are twenty town guards within Hapwater Glen, including their captain, Nissa Grindle. There is a small barracks within the town and a few drunk tanks below in the dungeon. There is rarely anyone in the cells, but that doesn’t mean there couldn’t be. Crime within Hapwater Glen is fairly mild, and is usually dealt with by means of fines. The local militia, if ever called upon, will increase the capacity of the town guards by 97 members, for a total of 117 capable bodies to protect the town, though the militia itself is made up of common townsfolk with no true martial training.
