Using Material from Book of Exalted Deeds

BoED, being so tightly connected to the Alignment mechanic, necessarily requires some adjustments to work in the Polychotomy. As a basic rule, most of the references to “good” in BoED translate to Purity within the Polychotomy, but there are exceptions.

Prestige Classes

The Prestige Classes from BoED are generally only available to Pure phyles. Specific details follow:
  • Anointed Knight is available to members of the All-Seeing Eye, Bastion of Righteousness, and Broken Bond only
  • Apostle of Peace is available to members of the Hospitalers and Sisters of Mercy only
  • Beloved of Valarian is available to members of the Sisters of Mercy only
  • Celestial Mystic is available to members of the Hospitalers and All-Seeing Eye only
  • Champion of Gwynharwyf is available to members of the Broken Bond only
  • Defender of Sealtiel is available to members of the Bastion of Righteousness only
  • Emmisary of Barachiel is available to members of any Pure phyle. Note that the conversion ability, instead of changing the recipient’s alignment, functions like the modified Sanctify the Wicked spell – see below for details.
  • Exalted Arcanist is available to members of any Pure phyle.
  • Fist of Raziel is available to members of the Bastion of Righteousness and Broken Bond only.
  • Initiate of Pistis Sophia is available to members of the Bastion of Righteousness and Sisters of Mercy only.

  • Troubadour of Stars is available to members of the All-Seeing Eye only.
  • Vassal of Bahamut does not exist in this campaign setting.

Feats

Accessing Exalted feats requires that a character have a Purity modifier at least 2 higher than her Taint modifier. If a character’s Purity modifier drops too low, she loses all benefits of all her Exalted feats until such time as her Purity modifier is again sufficiently high.

  • Ancestral Relic is available to any member in good standing of a phlye whose ancestors have been members of the same phyle for at least 3 generations. The level prerequisite remains.
  • Favored of the Companions, Knight of Stars, and Servant of the Heavans are tied to specific entities in BoED. In the Polychotomy, the equivalent feat is called Celestial Patron, and ties you to a specific celestial.
  • Nimbus of Light is only available to members of Pure phyles
  • Nymph’s Kiss is not considered an Exalted feat in the Polychotomy
  • Sacred Vow is only available to members of Pure phyles
  • Stigmata is only available to members of the Hospitalers
