Maul
The Maul
Seen by many as the least organized phyle, the Maul is nonetheless deserving of respect. They are not so much a mutual protection society as a bunch of well-armed dangerous thugs. While they’re not generally that good on strategy and tacticts, they’re tenacious fighters who, for the most part, don’t know the meaning of fear (or mercy). They’re also a good source for mercenaries – if you can trust them, that is.
- phyle badge: Many in the polychotomy come to fear the image of a large, rough-hewn stone-headed warhammer that the Maul conspicuously wear on their shoulders – sometimes stitched into their jackets, sometimes painted onto their armour, sometiems tattooed into their flesh.

- member obligations: Don’t pick a fight with another Maul if there are other victims around. Unless you really want to.
- member privileges: Help out other Mauls in a fight. Unless you don’t want to.
- typical members: Barbarians, Demons, Fighters, some Slaadi, Orcs,
- allies: Do they count as allies if they’re scared of you?
- enemies: Pretty much everyone.
- economy: The Maul are a popular source of mercenaries. There is some question, of couse, as to whether any Maul can actually be trusted….
- don’t mess with us because: We’ll beat on you for a very long time.
- common religions: The Maul tend towards non-religious, but worshippers of Monggruss, Gek, and Ngethra are not unknown.
- restrictions, attitudes towards purity and taint: The Maul tend to get involved with Taint, mostly as another source of nasty power and another way of intimidating the weak. The affiliation began when some relatively powerful and nasty demons joined the phyle, and turned out to be really fun people to have around. Thus, although a Tainted faction, the Maul aren’t dogmatic about it.
