The Prophecy of Adiroth

Character Backgrounds

Players have the option to choose one of the following character backgrounds. There is no direct in-game benefit to choosing one, and no harm in not choosing one, but having one may help to guide the choices your character makes and even the direction of the campaign as it progresses.

The Agent

(dwarf, elf, gnome, halfling, monstrous)

You are an agent of a power group of your chosen race from outside of the area; a group with its own agenda and goals. Particulars will depend on the race you choose.

Choose this background if you like to play traditional non-humans, or if you like a character that has its own agenda and secrets that the other characters cannot know.

The Ambassador (taken)

(dragonborn, dwarf, eladrin, elf)

Considering yourself an emissary of your race, you are searching for knowledge and understanding of the region and its culture, as well as any ways you can possibly advance your own people’s influence or standing in the region.

Choose this background if you want to play a character from an exotic society with its own cultural norms, or if you like characters that have to find their place in an alien culture.

The Black Sheep

(gnome, half-elf, halfling, human)

You are part of a merchant family with ties to nobility that wields some degree of power and influence in the land, but they shun you and refuse to acknowledge your relationship to them.

Choose this background if you like characters with a troubled past and some degree of personal intrigue.

The Enthralled (taken)

(eladrin, gnome, human, tiefling)

You are cursed by a mysterious master; so mysterious in fact that you do not even know his identity. All you know is that his raspy voice occasionally compels you to do things – sometimes terrible things; but you are certain that worse things will happen if you refuse.

Choose this background if you like brooding, tormented characters or those with conflicting motivations.

The Explorer

(eladrin, elf, gnome, half-elf)

Lost in a city, but comfortable in the wilderness, you are always eager to explore new places in your search for permanent overlaps between the Feywild and the world. Your search is fueled by a desire to visit the Moonsong Vale, a place of unsurpassed natural splendor ruled by a nymph possessed of legendary power and beauty.

Choose this background if you like fey-connected characters, or you like characters driven to explore their environment and find the beauty in the world.

The Hunted

(dragonborn, elf, gnome, human, tiefling)

A powerful organization seeks you for reasons that are unclear to you at this time, and you do not yet know if they care whether you are alive or dead.

Choose this background if you like characters that must always be on their toes, or characters with a mysterious past.

The Mercenary

(dragonborn, dwarf, monstrous, tiefling)

An indentured mercenary bound to the kingdom, your freedom is only two years away…unless you can find a way to obtain it sooner.

Choose this background if you like playing a character with a strong and visceral sense of purpose, or some form of exotic warrior.

The Orphan

(dwarf, eladrin, elf, gnome, halfling, monstrous)

You are the orphan of a clan that inexplicably disappeared with no other survivors. The last scion of your people, you were raised by a surrogate family and seek the fate of your kith and kin.

Choose this background if you like characters who are proud descendants of their forebears, or if you like characters with an unfulfilled purpose.

The Prophesied (taken)

(dragonborn, half-elf, human)

An ancient prophecy made by a blind priestess of Ioun foretold your birth. You have learned that your bloodline can be traced back to the Zaranth empire, but additional details of the telling have seemingly been lost to the ages.

Choose this background if you like characters who wish to learn and carry on the traditions of their ancestors, or characters that are moved by (or wrestling with) the weight of prophecy.

The Seeker

(half-elf, halfling, monstrous, tiefling)

You have always felt out of step with the world around you, as if you have not yet found your rightful place in the world. Despite these feelings, however, your entire life feels as if it has been leading you toward something – an unknown purpose as fascinating as it is disconcerting.

Choose this background if you like characters who are loners and often on the move, or characters who yearn to find where they belong.
