Queen Elondi Ariketh has tasked the companions to visit each city and destroy the Shadow that dwells there, starting with Alagost, then Thessol Dargad, then Ennigrad, followed by traveling to Coast Haven and visiting the Firelight Hour in order to receive a message from the queen.

This chapter tracks the progress from Durinlad to Alagost and the ultimate encounter with the Shadow of Alagost. The chapter opens with the companions outside of Durinlad at night, facing the Artemis Lawns as they begin to head southwards. They each have been given a horse suitable for their size and demeanor, travel rations and supplies. The white moon is a quarter while the red moon is half and low on the horizon.

It is Autumn, and the night is chilling to the bone.

Minor Quest – Tormentor’s Lair

Following the events of Tormentor’s Lair and the destruction of Zayah, the companions journey south parallel to the East Mare, overland through Dari Londoth, until they reach the diminishing remnants of forest and the gradual rise and fall of hills and farmlands. About another day’s journey through this countryside will lead to Alagost.

At some point, the companions will agree to divide their company. Embr and Padraig will continue onward for about another day’s travel to Knightsport while Eamon and Nolan will enter the city of Alagost and see what they can learn. It is Padraig’s wish to find Marund and confirm the release of the curse upon him and everyone else living under the legacy of Burathos’ men.
