Characters begin with 30 + 3 * INT skill points. Humans have 5 extra at first level. At advanced levels, they gain skill points per the PHB.

The cost to purchase rank 2 or higher in a specialty skill is either the list price or the list price -1. The number of ranks a character currently possesses in the specialty skill does not increase the cost of advancing that skill.

Level 1 characters can have at most 3 ranks in a skill. In general, a character of level N can have at most N+2 ranks in a skill.

At each level, a character can gain at most 2 levels in a given skill.

Knowledge – Language: This skill can be used as part of learning to speak the language of a newly encountered species. After spending a full day working with a speaker of at least native fluency (3 ranks), a hero with available skill points can purchase a single rank in the language being studied. Only one such rank can be gained using this “on the fly” method. Future ranks can only be gained after a new level is gained per normal rules (although when that level is achieved, 2 more ranks can be gained bringing full fluency).

Medical Science – Cloning (Cost 3): This skill is used for all stages in the Rebirth and cloning processes. At 3 ranks and 6 ranks, the penalties for the cloning skills are reduced by 1 step and 2 steps respectively (except for engram creation).

Medical Science – Psychology: This skill is an alternate skill that can be used for memory engram creation. At 3 ranks and 6 ranks, the penalties for the engram creation are reduced by 1 step and 2 steps respectively.

Medical Science – Xenomedicine: This skill can be used to reduce the penalties for all stages in the Rebirth and cloning processes associated with Rebirth and cloning of members of species outside your own. At 1 rank and 1 ranks, the penalties for the engram creation are reduced by 1 step and 2 steps respectively.

Life Science – Genetics: This skill is an alternate skill that can be used for DNA harvesting. At 3 ranks and 6 ranks, the penalties for the DNA harvesting are reduced by 1 step and 2 steps respectively.

Unarmed Attack – Sonic: This skill allows a hero with a sonic attack to direct that attack. Aquatic creatures using this skill in the air have a +1 step penalty on their attacks, and non-aquatic creatures have a +1 step penalty when using this attack in the water. With 3 ranks in this skill, the step penalties for using the attack in a hero’s nonnative environment is removed. With 6 ranks in the skill damage on the attack increases by +1/+2/+2. Sonic attacks gain bonus damage from the hero’s WIL, and bonuses to attack from a hero’s DEX. Combat Specs can choose this specialty skill to apply their Combat Spec step bonus to.
