Maria Steinadler
Youngest daughter of Wolfram and Maja Steinadler. She had been betrothed to Silbervas Governor Drago Novak as a token of Wolfram’s continuing appreciation to his old friend, however her heart had long been given to one of her brother Villim’s soldiers (see Boris Strugalla). She stole away from Steinadler Keep and made her way to Mortigny sometime during the events of chapter two of the first book and secretly married to her heart’s desire during chapter three.
Their union was discovered by agents friendly to the Levignys. She was kidnapped soon after and subsequently used to foil Villim’s plot to capture Eckhardt during chapter four of the first book. (Villim then discovered Boris’ disloyalty, which created a rift between them that continues to fester.)
The two escaped the seige of Mortigny (along with Lena Solnychnev and Villiim) and made their way to Mordent with the intent of happily living out their lives. Unfortunately, Boris and Lena came under the influence of the Chain Ring of Kyton and Maria was killed while saving Lena’s life during the following exorcism.
