Day 1
Adventure Notice
As you enter the town of Uldar, on the southeastern coast of the Forgotten Realms or happen to be in town, you hear about a job that a wizard is offering. The wizard is named Mizer the Wise and runs Mizeers mystical shop in town.
Traughnan’s arrival
October 14, 2012 11:58
Traughnan wakes up at the Blue Boar inn and just finished breakfast when he over hears some of the other patrons talking about Mizer the Wise looking for seasoned adventurers. A gruffy dwarf pipes up and says,“I’m going to go check it out. My purse is getting empty and my clan sent me to check this out”. The human sitting with the dwarf responds, “Well lets get going I’m going there too”.
The dwarf is dress well and has religious markings on his chainmail and is battle hammer is sinched to his belt. The human is dressed in mundane robes sandles and does not look well
’It’s been slow around here lately, why not.’ Traughnan remarks to himself. ’These two yabbos may open up something of interest. Traughnan will follow the human and dwarf at a close but casual distance.
The human says to the dwarf in dwaven, “I always thought your people were taller as he lets out a bellowing laugh and slaps the dwarf on the back”.
The dwarf replies in common, with a chuckle, “I always thought you humans die to fast, as he laughs and keeps going”.
Before too long they find themselves in the mystical quarter of the city and they spot Mizeer’s shop just ahead.
Xan says, “This is it let’s see what the old geezer has for a job”.
Timbus’ travels
Timbus makes his way toward the Port city of Uldar having crossed th Toadsquat Mountains and the LLuirwoods from the Eastern Shaar where he once roamed. Having made your way around to the gate the gate master gives the sign to the guards to let you pass. The city is bustling with activity and there are many shops. There is place for shops to post help request and you notice a request from Mizer the Wise looking for seasoned adventures to assist him that pays well.
Timbus looks about after noticing the sign, glancing to and fro from under the shadow of his hood. Even shifted into bipedal form, his features were still suspiciously leonine and he was always afraid of attracting the wrong kind of notice, even in a port city like Uldar where he was sure the residents THOUGHT they’d seen it all. Not many in these parts had ever come face to face with a Wemic, and he certainly wasnt going to provide the experience for their enrichment.
Having come into town to have his tribal legacy gemstones set into a cuff, he wanted to find the appropriate jeweler, get the job done and get out. Cities werent really his gig but then…
For some reason, the sign of Mizer the Wise caught his eye, and just then like the hum of a dragonfly in his ear, the familiar voice of his Grandfather whispered: Go and seek him.
Timbus leary of the crowds takes a moment to sample some sweet breads takes a Lapis Lazuli (5 GP) and gets 4 GP 9 SP back for he bread and fruits. The city is full of activity at 10:00 in th morning. It is spring time in the realm on a nice partly cloudy day.
Timbus makes his way toward the mystical section of the city which houses most of the magical and potion shops. He spots Mizeer’s mystical shop right away.
The buzzing comes back as he hears his grandfather once again. "What you will seek has been put to rest for centuries be careful young one.
Timbus enters first followed by the Dwarf Xankul Battlebeard and the Human Drex Artimus then Traughnan just a few seconds later.
They are greated by elf, "Come in please browse our wares and let me know if you are interested in anything particular. Our fees are resonable and the quality of the merchandise is the best in the city. She pauses for a moment you. Are you here looking for the work my mentor posted?
Feel free to mingle I’ll bring some refreshments and a snack while we wait for Mizer the wise.
She returns with floating trays of smoked meats, then cheese and fruits and finally a floating tray of wines, dwarven ales and fresh spirits.
Enjoy travelers. Mizer will be here shortly.
The shop is decorated with nice tapestries, benches and tables with wands and potions and other items in organized sections. Fire, Ice, Earth, Lightning, Acid, Force and others.
Timbus enters and keeps either his back or his profile to anyone else and his hood well-drawn over his features. He ponders the trays and passes on the smoked meats (unless there is any fish…); he’s still upset the ‘sweetbreads’ didnt have any throats or hearts like he had heard about, and were really just ‘sweet breads’. He picks up a piece of cheese, smells it and puts it back, and ignores the ale completely.
He will appear at ease (though he is not) and remain as a lurker and as disconnected as possible from the others in the shop.
Plucking a few nibbles from the floating trays, Traughnan will help himself to a wine and sniff around, browsing. He’ll be interested in the rings and wands.
He’ll approach Xankul and Drex and strike up a bit of small talk. “Nice action this Mizer the wiser is setting up eh? What about that score eh? Sounds buttercream-dream if it checks out right? How’d you wranglers hear about the job?”
Xankul pipes up, “I told ye this was going to be a good’n Drex. Look at this stuff and dwarven ale ta boot”. He grabs some smoked meat and a tankard of the ale. Takes a swig and leaves the foam on his beard. “Ahhh thats refreshing lads and lasses”.
Xankul tells Traughnan, “I am a priest of Marthammor Duin God of guides, explorers, expatriates, travelers, and lightning. I am a champion for my order. I was sent here by request. I meet Drex along the way here outside of the city.
What’s your story? Is the shy one with you too”?
Drex tells Traughnan, “I am a monk and my master told me something of great importance was here for me to do. I believe fate has guided me to this shop”.
Most kinds of wands up to 5th level magic user spells all with 10 charges can be found here.
Wand of Magic missile would run 2100 gp, wand of knock 3300 gp, you name it and it might be here. Most are rings of protection +1 for 5000 GP in various styles.
Timbus, without showing any strain to do so, tries to overhear the conversations being had…
After a short time Mizer walks in to the room. "I was hoping for more adventurers but no matter. Let’s see he says, looking the four adventurers over. I trust Carsa has seen to your refreshments and snacks.
Let’s get to it shall we. I need you, pointing to all four adventurers, to aquire several items or me. There are three fragments scattered throughout the realm. I want you to retrieve each piece and return it to me. For this service I will provide 1000GP/item and a 2000 GP bonus on completion. Anything you find in the keep is yours minus a 20% cut.
I will provide a caravan with armed escort. They will see to it that the items you find are secured and guarded until your return to the city. Capt. Trevor will lead the caravan but only to the ruins and make camp there. His men will haul out any treasure for you that you find that is too bulky for you to carry personally. His men will only come into the ruins once each area is secured by you. You will need to mark each door with chalk to identify that the room beyond is secured.
The Thruldar ruins are about 3 days ride north of here. It is over run by undead. A new type of undead is rumored to exist there. This will not be an easy task if you find other adventurers along the way they will get the same deal you are now offered should they wish to join you. I was able to obtain maps of the three levels of the keep and Capt. Trevor has them. He will make them available to you as you need them.
Mizer hands each one of you a Scarab of Protection and says, "These have 6 charges each and will probably be of use to you. This ruin will be the first of three that you must search. Each ruin has at least three levels in it. I will inform Capt. Trevor to be ready tomorrow morning and he will expect you then. If you have any questions or wish to shop please do so. There are other shops both magical or clerical in nature should you wish to obtain things before you leave. Carsa can see to your need in the shop here.
Traughnan eyes the wizard. “What do these fragments do?”
Timbus thinks: “This isnt really my deal…” but for some reason he feels both pushed and drawn to this task.
He accepts the Scarab of Protection [6 charges] with a nod (while keeping his hood drawn and head primarily down). As he paws it, he glances around at the rest of those present. He wonders why the elfish dagger-laden human with the full quiver bears no armor; doesn’t seem practical.
The dwarf and the monk (did he hear right?) also seem interesting, though the dwarf talks too much and too loud (isnt that always the case?).
He pockets the Scarab and decides to spend the night outside the city walls, only to return when expected for the beginning of his adventure in the morning.
Mizer studies Traughnan for a few seconds to gauges him then says, "You will find out soon enough my young adventurer, but not from me. If you are the heroes I believe you to be your answers will come in due time. Your main concern will be returning the pieces to me as soon as you recover them.
Traughnan does remember something in his ancient history lessons about some war but it’s vague at the moment, as his memory of the reading is distant. He senses it will come to him eventually.
Traughnan replies. “What kind of undead are these? Are the fragments cursed? Are they evil? If I’m sticking my neck out to recover these ‘fragments’ (he air quotes) and you aren’t willing to divulge any info pertaining-like then the price has got to go up. I’ll get you the fragments, but the price has gotta go up. If it’s gonna be a amateur night, I want healing magics, holy waters, anti-undead gear and a 1000 GP. I want it in gems upfront. I want another 10,000 when this is completed on top of the 2000 gold for each of us per recovered fragment.”
Xankul pipes up between bites of food and slurps of ale, “I’m with the elf, You got something big for us to do you better make it right by all of us. It’s our necks on the line after all”.
Drex says, “It would be wise to be well prepared for such an undertaking. Should you wish to see us succeed it would be best to make sure we are well prepared sir”.
Mizer looks at Traughnan, "So you have a tongue and a pair to back it up. Since I need you I will agree to 10,000 GP on completion and 2000 per item. I have aleady given you a scarab of protection. I would not push your luck however.
Mizer whispers something to Carsa who leaves and withing a few minutes returns. She hands each party member 2 CSW potions each and a Wand of CLW with 25 Charges to Xankul.
If you want holy water you can aquire it yourself along with any other provisions you see fit.
I believe these undead to be stronger types of similar undead seen in the past. I do not know anything more.
Traughnan knows Mizer is still holding something back, but it’s good money and the chance of a lifetime.
Mizer finalizes the deal and informs Carsa to close up the shop for mid day break. Carsa tells the crew, "I’d recommend staying at the Blue Boar Inn for the night folks. The caravan will be ready to go around mid morning. I will inform him who you are and to be ready for you.
