The Borderlands
The Borderlands were formed at roughly the same time as the Rifts of Grendel. As Repsiden regrouped his assets and pulled back into the core of his territory, he removed his exploratory vessels as well. With many of the governments now without official rulings from Repsiden, many began a change in government. Many became independent planet of the Imperium, no longer paying homage to Repsiden. Others began breaking down into savage societies where only the strongest ruled, not unlike the Orks. Few attempts have been made to reclaim these worlds into the Repsiden Dynasty, but they mostly remain faithful to the Imperium, at least not coming to worship the xenos or the Ruinous Powers.
What these worlds do house an abundance of is work. Either for the Cold Trader or the Hired Gun, the Technomat or the Fortune Teller, there is someone who requires certain talents. Many planets still hold a medium of the Imperial ways, only a few falling backwards, but they function on their own terms, and many an unscrupulous dealing has been made.
