Kevin’s parents, James and Wilma Cole, still live in Wiscasset, Maine, where Kevin was born and raised. He grew up happy, but wanted to live in a bigger city, like Portland, ME, where he now lives. Still, he visits his parents every so often, and enjoys the visits.

Kevin attended school in Wiscasset, completing High School and apprenticing with a local furniture maker before he started his own business.

Question 9) Are there certain thing’s your character can’t or won’t do? Why?

There is probably little Kevin /won’t/ do. But there’s much he would never consider doing, such as hurting others without a good reason, or taking something he doesn’t own.

Question 10) What things, people or ideas does your character hate?

His hates are the culture of money and business, letting profit rule even when it hurts people. He also doesn’t have a lot of respect for those who deliberately lie about themselves.

Being admired. Winning. Something made that reflects the person who made it.

None — nobody has gotten that close to him for long enough to be considered ‘serious’.

Question 16) Why does your brother hate you and refuse to speak to you?

Miles apparently feels Kevin has always treated him poorly, tattling about any misdeeds of his and taking Miles’ share of family gifts, treats, and attention. This would not be a terrible problem were it not that Kevin refuses to admit he has done any wrong.

Question 17) Which of your siblings do you hate and why?

Miles: he made it a habit to torture (pardon me, tease) Kevin while he was growing up and refuses to respond to any efforts to clear the air.

Question 18) What was the deeply moving spiritual experience you had?

Growing up in Maine, Kevin did a lot of hunting as a child and teenager. Thanks to his father, he learned to appreciate the deep interconnectedness of life in a forest and, by extension, the entire world. It made him conscious that he needs to consider every action in terms of not just the immediate effect but all that might be affected by its results, possibly generations later.

Question 19) Why does your character avoid Christianity?

Although he knows and loves many deeply spiritual Christians, to Kevin’s perception, no religion has done more to break the connections between people and nature than Christianity. This leaves him with little desire to be more than polite around the churches and institutions surrounding the religion.

Question 20) When did your character learn to use and repair firearms?

As a part of his experiences with hunting, Kevin learned to handle a rifle, to make and use custom loads, and to repair same. He hasn’t used this skill very often, however.
