A thousand years ago, Valgar was a high-priest of Phobas, and hero of much renown. He was an adventuring companion of Gaither, Devian, Arkus, Vanalor and Larketh and led the ill-fated counter-assault on the Abysmal Plane of Shaddonon that ended the Third Demon War.
After returning from the Abyss and encountering the ‘remains’ of his god, Valgar was never the same. Forsaking his beliefs, he gave up divine studies and began to master arcane magics. Little is known of his activities and most believed he died a quiet death until three centuries later when a Wizard known as Valgar was named head of the Ten Terrors, the wizard council serving the Mad Emperor Narodon.
It is certain this Valgar is one and the same since his appearance prompted the Arch Magi Gaither to finally agree to join the Silver Alliance against the Mad Emperor. It was assumed that both Valgar and Gaither were destroyed in the titanic conflagration that sank the Isle of Namlon. Although rumors of both appearing in various stories later were common, no reliable reports could confirm either’s survival.
