Kings is a game similar to that of Go with certain pieces having special abilities akin to chess pieces. It is a game of high stakes that only Rogue Traders can really afford to play amongst themselves. As pieces are removed, the loser must ‘buy in’ to remain in the game. For each piece removed the buy in is doubled. The game judges a Rogue Traders’ mettle, his sense of strategy, his ability to outthink his opponent as well as the means of handling the high stakes to that of a competitor. Traditionally, most friendly games start with the first buy in at 100,000 golden thrones.
The game has very few hard-fast rules, most of the restrictions that prohibit certain moves or actions are dictated by tradition which allows for a player to ‘buy in’ to ignore a rule. If the stakes are too high, then a player is permitted to bow out and end the game. It should be noted that this seems to be the only Golden Rule of the game, not one Rogue Trader has ever been known to quit a game early because the stakes were too high. Rogue Trader’s have been known to lose their ship before having to bow out of a game for tradition and pride truly are the indelible right of Kings.
