The Freeman was the first ship built by the Jotunn shipyard in Hatham, as the initial installment in Torei’s planned shipping fleet to trade with the Halveetian League.

On its initial voyage, The Freeman was helmed by the Jotunn captain Delmar. It carried among its passengers Archmater Retta Pierce of the Church of Hamal’s Storico order of historians/mythologists. Arkus, the leader of Torei also placed his 12-year-old daughter, Maeva, in Pierce’s care, in the hopes to place her beyond the ever-present threat of Sa’iph.

Unfortunately, Arkus’s enemies had spies around him, and were aware of Maeva’s presence on The Freeman. Dembrosio Shal Antazos, a Duke of Sa’iph, Arkus’s former owner, sent his retainers to the southern coast to take over a lighthouse and lead the ship aground. The ship foundered, and all crew and passengers except Maeva were killed.

The search for what happened to The Freeman was the PCs’ first adventure.
