Day 64 – Morning (Time suspended while in pyramid)

The Pyramid of Shadows, The Hermitage

Taking a short rest after clearing the library the group discusses what to do when a blast from the past (Bashful) makes an appearance and rejoins the group. They decide to make a move on the shard that Vyrellis detects to the north, this at least may get them one step closer to escaping this place. Everyone takes up positions on either side of the door while Stagaut examines the door and finds no visible signs of traps and the party opens the door. They see a small room with some tables and a statue of an angel. Stagaut spots a decaying glpyh on the statue, possibly a trap.

When Sneezy moves in for a closer look at the glyph it triggers some kind of audible alarm and sets everyone’s ears ringing. Voideaters come rushing out of the open doorway and battle is joined. The party is soon swamped by many voideaters, and they find that the audiable alarm has a dazing effect and appears to be growing in size. When Arat appears the head of Vyrellis commands the party to destroy him and get his key. Most of the party is immobilised or dazed or both during the fight making any tactical moves extremely difficult until Staguat moves in and swiftly disables the Glyph on the statue. However from the onset the party took control and slowly wore down the defenders, Arat proving no match for them, even after knocking Snow & Sneezy of the ledge back onto the library floor. There was a brief moment when the group thought Arat had escaped but they soon found him again and finished him off.

After a thorough search the party finds a Staff of Storms +2 and a adamantine key from Arat. He also had a locked chest where some additional valuables where found.

Day 64 – Early Morning (Time suspended while in pyramid)

The Pyramid of Shadows, Library Of Whispers

Having cleared the final Arborean defenders the party decides to take an extended break in the Arboreans area. Sneezy gets busy setting up a small magical lab to make or replace magical equipment, apart from that everyone else takes the chance to relax and practice their arts.

With no sign of Cymbalta for over a week, the party decides to explore further after Sneezy explains that Vyrellis is getting more than a little annoyed at the extended delay. So Sneezy, Doc, Happy, Snow & Stag head out to some of the unexplored areas on this level of the Pyramid. Happy taking the lead heads the party North, back to the starting pit room and then beyond. Passing by a corridor, Happy spies a large reptillian beast resting in a murky pool to the east. It doesnt spot Happy and he motions the party for quiet and the group backs up to decide on a plan. Doc wants to take them out before moving on, becasue he doesnt like the idea of being ambushed from behind, but Happy & Sneezy after conversing with Vyrellis decide that North is a better choice as it doesnt lead to another Pyramid factional area. The party beings to move north when Doc is spotted by the large reptillian beast, and they stare at each other for a few moments. To Doc’s surprise the beast turns back to whatever it was doing and ignores him. Doc again insists that this beast is up to no good and wants to attack. As a compromise Stag uses his Gloaming armor to dissappear and scout the area, finding another large reptillian beast and several smaller humanoid lizard like creatures moving about the pool. The party decides to see what the lizards do, but after a few minutes of this, with no reaction from the lizards the party again moves north.

Passing the rat room they arrive at the end of a corridor heading north, blocked by impressive double doors. The party moves into a defensive pattern and Happy opens the door to reveal a huge space filled with bookcases along all of the walls and in rows throughout the room. An impressive white marble statue stand in the center of the Library surrounded by a large grassed area. Its then that the whispering begins, and gains in volume, however the dwarves dont seem to notice as they are all staring google eye’d at the 12’tall naked female statue.

Snapping his gaze from the statue, Happy moves in for a closer look, and the rest take up positions near the door. Happy notes that the whispering appears to be coming from the bookshelves and moves closer to investgate, meanwhile Sneezy gets a ear-bashing from Vyrellis who is asking him to tell everyone to stop staring at her statue. As sneezy moves up to a bookshelf and looks around he is confronted by a humanoid with leathery skin and glowing yellow eyes, holding a rather sharp looking scimitar, they both spring into action…

After the battle the only issue that concerned the party was who should get to check the statue for “hidden compartments” first, Doc winning that honour!. Sneezy and Snow examined the vast library and after some time discovered a Raise Dead & Consult the Mages scroll.

Day 57 – Late Morning (Time suspended while in pyramid)

The Pyramid of Shadows, The Vines Of Death

Not wanting to give the Arboreans time to recover the party takes a short breather and makes plans to follow where the Speaker was planning to escape to. During the break Robb makes a reappearance and explains that Cymbalta wanted to leave the party behind, something about stupid dwarves. Robb goes on to tell how he tried to convince Cymbalta to stay, but in the end could not make him change his mind. He tell’s the party he has no idea where Cymbalta may have got to.

The real story is that Robb wants all of the “Lady’s” favour for himself. He devised a plan using a mixture of poisons that created a false reality for Cymbalta, some of this mix unintentionally effected some of the party, hence the different recollections of what actually happened. While Cymbalta was under the influence of the poisons, Robb created an entire false reality for him. Cymbalta truly believed Haggis and Robb had died, and that he made a grand exit taking Robb’s body and returning to the “Lady”. When he wakes up, if he hasn’t been eaten or killed by some inhabitant of the Pyramid he may have a little score to settle with Robb, till then Robb will have to watch his back.

Robb making use of his Gloaming armor disappears from sight and investigates the room ahead. The room is full of vines hanging from the ceiling, offering very little view of the room itself. Sneaking quietly forward he detects many possible enemies hiding behind the vines. Reporting this to the party they organise themselves and Robb leads the attack with a well placed Ungol Dust to the nearest Quickling’s head.

With the last Quickling scampering off into the distance the party has finally cleared out most if not all of the Arboreans area. Taking a short rest they make plans to make the area secure for use as a base of operations for further explorations into the pyramid.

After resting (yet again) in the Rathaus and recovering from our single combat of the day we decide to continue exploring the plant creature area. Doc is still somewhat delicate after the pig feast so he chooses to stay behind in the relative safety of our camp and continue his recovery.

The Pyramid of Shadows, Shambler Pit

Just as the dwarves are beginning to finish off the roast pork Bashful and Haggis catch up with the rest of the party; Bashful finally having shaken off the stupor brought on by being teleported into the pyramid. They each grasp a haunch of meat and make short work of it before giving out a loud belch. This soon turns into somewhat of a contest with each dwarf trying to outdo the other for both volume and stench.

Once the noise and smell has settled down and the winner has been chosen (Bashful by at least 10 decibels and several levels of olfactory putrescence; although there were some accusations of cheating as not all of the smell and noise originated orally) we decide to move on via the southern doorway. However the combination of the feast and the belching contest has left Doc and Sneezy feeling far too worn out to even magic up a decent burp let alone anything more powerful so they elect to stay in the hedge room and sleep off their overfull bellies. Robb volunteers to once again stand guard and he is left there all alone with nobody else around to see him watch over the helpless, unconscious forms of the arcane pair.

The Pyramid of Shadows, Hedge Maze

Exploring to the south we move to a dimly lit room filled by vines and hedges with a yellowish mist blanketing the area. Choosing to use tactics and scout ahead for a change, Cymbalta and Robb enter the room proper and look around. Cymbalta uses his far vision to check around the corners of the hedges to see if any enemies are near and is just able to make out the shadowy form of some figures through the mist and undergrowth.

Waking from our rest we find that Doc has at last come to his senses and shaken off the stupor brought on by being transported into the pyramid. Bashful however is still suffering the effects; he simply lies on his bed, his feet occasionally moving like he is chasing mice in his sleep and giving out the occasional bark-like snort.

On entering the storeroom a large pile of bones can be seen in the corner and Haggis spies the tracks of rats scattered through the dust – his dwarf stomach rumbles at the thought of a delicious fried rat on a stick (with plenty of ketchup).

The Pyramid of Shadows, Prison Pit

As darkness slowly fades the party discovers that it has been transported to another place; a very smelly and un-agreeable place. Most are able to shake off the effects of the transportation fairly quickly however Sneezy, Doc and Bashful lie unconscious on the floor; for some reason finding themselves more vulnerable than the others.
