The history of the gnomes is fraught with contradiction. Those commonly referred to as Gnomes can be clearly divided into two separate groups, the Weridien and the Edediron. While the two groups clearly descend from a common ancestry both groups vehemently deny that possibility. In fact while each posses a rich and detailed historical record neither makes any mention of the other.
The Gnomes as a whole are curious by nature, though for each of the cultures this propensity for curiosity exhibits itself in different ways. Another strong similarity between the two cultures is a love of the arts. Gnomish culture is well known for its fine works of visual and literary artistry. Many Gnomes are also talented musicians, however most other races find Gnomish singing to be distasteful if not painful to listen to.
The Gnomes are also well known for their hospitality or lack their of as the case may be. This is not to say that the Gnomes themselves are particularly rude or anti-social, the simple fact is they just don’t care.
