Original Pre-Campaign History:

Thorin Firewind’s mother is a wealthy merchant named Uellissa Firewind. She is well known for her quality silks and fabrics as she peddles them across the land. And being a moderately attractive, and very wealthy woman, she is also well known to have many suitors. There is no way to know for sure exactly who Thorin’s father is, though his mother believes it to be a customer she once “sweetened” the deal with to close a sale.

Growing up, Thorin was mostly neglected by his mother; seeming more of a nuisance to her travels and professional relationships than her son. She kept him fed, and clothed, but beyond that he was expected to stay in her wagon in the caravan and remain silent and out of site. Through the years the young lad was well educated by her assistants, who felt pity on the child, and tried there best to better his quality of living (behind his mother’s back of course). For this reason, Thorin has an innate affinity towards the lower working class and peasants.

This had a huge impact on Thorin’s life, as his youth was spent essentially locked up in the back of a wagon with nothing to do but read the many books and volumes his mother would often acquire as part of a trade for some of her fabrics.

Finally, on his twelfth year, Thorin asked his mother if he could attend an academy of learning, after all, reading was the majority of his lifestyle. At first Uellissa scoffed at her son, and protested on the cost of an academy, but later, for some reason unknown to anyone, agreed to her son’s requeust.

It just so happened, at that time, their next stop on the caravan route was the city of New Tu’Banor. There was located a great library and museum which housed a wizard’s academy. It was an elite school of arcane learning, and reserved only for the very wealthy who could afford the tuition. This of course was no problem for Uellissa, and she immediately enrolled her son into the academy.

For the next several years, Thorin saw very little of his mother. She would come in from time to time, say hello to her son, pay the tuition, and then be on her way. As the years passed, his mothers visits grew more infrequent and further apart, until one year they simply stopped.

The academy footed the bill for Thorin’s tuition for many years, assuming his wealthy mother would eventually return to pay the tution, but at some point their enthusiasm waned. His last month at the academy, Hobarth Nanuwan, Thorin’s favorite instructor let him know that the academy was going to release him from the program due to the lack of funds. However, Hobarth had grown fond of his pupil and when the time came and the academy rejected Thorin’s enrollment, his teacher helped him find a home, and provide a small allowance from his own pocket.

This is how Thorin met Marcus Stonemorrow and Decimus Draconis. It was their home in which Hobarth paid in advance for a year’s rent of one of the empty rooms. And, as time passed the three became friends.
