This dungeon will be the death of someone. I’m not sure who will die, or when it will happen, but something deadly permeates these walls. Traps spring forth in the most unlikely places, and creatures lurk the passages awaiting our arrival.

I have not seen as many of these creatures as I would have expected, which leads me to believe that later in our adventures an ambush awaits. Suffice it to say, I am beginning to find this place more and more interesting.

A map found on one of the walls seems to confirm the map we were given. Exploration of this place is going much better now that we have found more than one key. We may yet be able to find the children, and that damn rat. If the rat is not alive, however, I fear we may have to deal with our locksmith friend with more force. I can’t imagine he would be pleased to hear of the pet’s demise.

I will say this about the Gnomish peoples, they sure know how to create an illusion. No one has lived here, no one of Gnomish origin anyway, in so very, very long; yet dialogs and visages abound. We will know what these people did just before the vanishing for years to come. I think someone should find a way to record history through such illusions. It seems as though such illusions would help to make sure historical records were as accurate as possible, and that they were described with the real emphasis that the author intended. At any rate, we may have no use of history soon.

We were able to salvage some sellable items from these halls, which raised questions on the surface. I hope that further risk to life and limb also comes with further riches. I will need vast sums of money if I am to establish the Boccobian church in this city. I wonder how the other faiths will take the accompaniment. St. Cuthbert’s followers can be real pig headed, but they seem to genuinely want what is best for the city. I’m not sure that such meddling is good for everyone, but it should make interaction between the clergy more palatable.

I am now focused on the rest of this Gnomish underworld. We need to find a way though this maze of doors, without dying. Thus far our choices have seemed somewhat limited, given the number of keys we have. Should we run into an ambush beyond one of those doors, I hope our bows and steel can manage to stave off theirs. Our magic does not seem to be the deciding factor in many of our conflicts to date, and I expect it will not prove to be so any time soon. I see the death of our elderly companion before the end of the next fortnight.

Which raises an interesting question. Will I get to see each of my new companions die, or shall they see me fall. I should like to see at least one of them die, if only for a short time. I want to see how the others would take the loss. Would it be worse to loss the old man, for he is ancient and the death of the elderly is a sad thing to most. Would the loss of the halfling be worse. He is spry and full of youth, which can be sadder still when snuffed out.

I shall do my best to heal my companions, and keep them from harm, yet I would not be sad if one of them should fall. Boccob, please grant me the wisdom and fortune to protect my companions and experience their life to its glorious end.
