Ryla Entry 4
It has been an eventful two days since I have last wrote you. The company of the Silver Phoenix contains good intentioned people and worthy allies. Some are quiet and reflective, some are forward and loud while others are simple minded and kind hearted. It truly is a strange mix of people, something I’m not accustomed to with my upbringing. I’ve gotten to know these people well and I think, in the long run, the region will be a better place as long as the company stays active.
After my reflections, we pressed deeper into the dungeon of ice and cold. After a few hallways, we came upon another demon, a large, obese creature with an odor so foul I hand to hold my hand to my nose. It was easy to determine that the creature did not wish company and attacked us with a fog that ate our skin like acid. Thankfully, the simple man Bransen was able to dispel it before any permanent harm was caused. Jarvyk and I met side by side against the creature as we had done several times in the past and harried the creature up until the mindbender dismissed it back to its home plane.
After the fight with the demon, we pressed further and came across a rather ugly looking half orc and an undead naga… um, think of a snake but with a human head instead of a normal snake head. And it was all skeleton. Very weird. The half orc proved to be just a lackey and shield for the true threat which was the naga. With some arcane words, the naga brought forth tentacles of pure darkness and evil that I swear were of the Abyss itself. I had to weave my way through tentacles, which proved to be more difficult that I thought, but I made it up to the half orc. He tried to stand up against me but fell with a single strike from my blade. After I dispatched the half orc, the naga began to flee, drawing forth more tentacles as I tried to chase after it. The rest of the group was close behind me as we entered into a huge room with equally huge pillars made of flesh it seemed. I wasn’t able to get a good look due to the naga. As we chased it around the room, the mindbender once again made his presence known and with but a thought, made the naga vanish.
With the fight finally over, we regrouped to recover from the fight and inspect the pillars that we had long searched for, the Soul Pillars. They were columns that stretched over two score high and appeared to be made of flesh and souls. I could see the faces pressed against the flesh in agony and it sent shivers down my spine. Yet, even though we had found the pillars we did not know what to do with them and their connection to the Soul Cage that was found in Cauldron. We knew that there was more exploring to be had. After another rest, we continued along our way down a long stretch of hallway.
Naturally, once all of us were in the hallway, a man opened up the door at the end of the hallway and with an evil grin, threw several bolts of lightning at us. The attack had taken me by surprise and knocked me to the ground and knocked the wind out of me. I think I blacked out for a moment, but I remember the warm sensation of Bransen’s healing magic, which brought me back around. I got back to my feat and joined my companions who had pressed the mage back into the room that he came from. As if he had some personal vendetta against me, he threw multiple spells at me, one of which severely drained me of my energy. With the help of my friends, we were able to defeat him however.
I am hopeful that we will find the answers to our questions soon so that we can leave this accursed place, and hopefully I will find the answer to my questions so that I can return home. In the meantime, be a good girl and eat your vegetables.
