Shades of Amber

Through a rather extravagant series of parties our group, dressed in flamboyant merchant disguises, attracted the attention of the Prince of Kashfa. He arrived at our party and after enjoying the food and dancing he attempted to wheedle information about us out of Scarlett. His name was Luke and he was quite handsome and dressed immaculately and I think that must have flustered Scarlett. The poor girl is rather awkward, and by rather I mean extremely awkward…I’m sure the Prince was rather surprised when his partner fled the dance floor mid-song after trodding on his boots at least four times. Dominic, in his brilliant red coat with obscenely large gold buttons, played his part well and attempted to smooth the situation over.

We were invited to a soiree at the castle the next night as personal guests of the Prince all according to plan. The others were quite excited that our plan was working so well, but I was a bit skeptical, perhaps the others had not paid as much attention to the Prince’s interaction with Scarlett as I had. Once again we danced (and in some cases drank) the night away playing our parts well. Ilayne and Evangeline found many admirers and spent the majority of the night twirling around the floor, although more than once they complained to me about sore feet. They are not as used to this lifestyle as I am…perhaps we can find them some more comfortable shoes somewhere in shadow.

We retired for the evening, but had seen no sign of Mordecai the last several hours of the party. It seems he had caught the attention of the Queen, and I must say, good for Mordecai! She is a very striking woman and rumored to be quite splendid in bed. (I caught this bit of gossip when I overheard two matrons talking near the punch table.) When it was time to make our way to the pattern room, Mordecai was still missing, but we decided to proceed anyway. There was a slight delay when the Prince questioned Dominic since he knew things were not quite right with us. Luckily he let Dominic retire and shortly thereafter we quickly made our way down to the pattern room. Everything was going fine until we encountered a guard station and Dominic decided to kill one instead of just incapacitate the man. We ran the rest of the way and Dominic quickly jumped on the pattern.

He had not made it terribly far when the Prince of Kashfa came crashing through the barricade I had erected with a bunch of his men. He was not pleased with our deception but after some fairly hasty explanations he agreed to give aid to our mission of retaking Amber in return for Dominic eliminating the King of Begma discretely. We quickly agreed on Dominic’s behalf and watched him finish the walking the broken pattern until he reached the center and disappeared.
