Morthos Entry 5
Mother and Father,
Now that I have some more time, I wanted to write down some more passages on what has transpired now that we are back in the dungeons of Shadowfell Keep. The place is unnerving, and there are undead! But more about that in a moment.
Since we had finally cleared out most of the first level, we decided it was probably safe enough to let the kobold prisoners go. I’m sure people won’t understand why we did such an act for such a creature, but I know that in order to make a change in life, you have to start small. I’m fully aware such an act could be harmful in the future, but I think in the end, the deeds will stack and the future will be better for it. Thankfully, the rest of the group agreed to let them go.
With that settled, we moved off to the last door of the immediate area. We made our plans as best we could to deal with the voices that Syler heard on the other side of the door. Primed and ready, we opened the door to see several of the little green men playing cards. Yeah, cards. We taunted them to try and get them to come down the long hall way. Instead they just backed around a corner. Seeing that our plan was pretty much a bust, I moved down the corridor to confront them.
I must get better at making these kinds of decisions, because as I rounded the corner, several javelins got thrown at me which hurt a whole lot. Thankfully I was able to recover as Balasar and Tolis-Va came up to help. Not so thankfully the remainder of the goblins flanked us from down a previous hallway. Apparently they were using a secret door to get around us, which left Syler and Etholin unprotected against the assault. The three of us rushed back to help them out and fought the goblins head on and eventually defeated them with no further complications.
Among the trinkets and coins of the goblins we found a magically enchanted axe! It doesn’t look as good as yours father, but it feels right in my hands. Don’t worry though, I will keep our family heirloom safe. As the group took a break, Syler made a quick run around the level so he could start sketching out the dungeon. When we questioned him about it, he said that we could get paid if we brought back a drawing of the dungeons of the Keep. I had completely forgotten about that request, though I can’t say I’m surprised Syler remembered. Motivated by money that one is. At least he has motivation though, it’s a step in the right direction at least, albeit a small one.
After our rest we decided to head down below to see what we could find, hopefully the ritual so we can stop it. As we made our way out of the entry, we heard some really weird noises and several shambling creatures came into view. I don’t recall who yelled out zombies but the group quickly went into action. The past week or so of nearly constant fighting has really helped the group work together as we were able to route the zombies very easily. We have come to understand that the easiest way to kill a zombie is to cut off its head. Seems like a logical conclusion ultimately as most things die when you cut off its head. I guess it really isn’t that novel of an idea. Oh well.
Moving on from the zombies we reached a more cavern like room that had several swarms of annoying rats that took to biting at our ankles. They were not that much of a problem until this big and animated jelly came out of nowhere and started moving towards us. I must say it was the most bizarre thing I have ever seen! A puddle of goo that moves and tries to envelope you. It gave me shivers the whole time. Thankfully it dissolved through the use of magic and determination. With the rats now gone as well we are taking another break before heading onward.
More soon,
Morthos
