The Dark

"Sounds like a dare." -Syler

D&D 4E

It does me good to see my old Friend in good spirits after his ordeal. Douven has been telling stories to the group ever since we left the Dragon burial site. The journey did not take long and soon we were back in Winterhaven enjoying a nice meal and good company.

A curious thing happened as we were enjoying our mugs of ale, the ice-hearted elf we had met previously in the inn decided to come over and apologize to the Eladrin for her somewhat prickly demeanor. She told us that her sister had been killed by an Eladrin, and that it was not right of her to be rude. She also told us that she had witnessed cult activity in the area, but couldn’t provide any further details. We also met one of the guards of this fair city who approached us about the kobolds. He had heard that we had taken the job of removing their ilk from the area and told us that travelers whom had fallen victim to their raids had heard the kobolds shout the name “Irontooth.” Perhaps the name of their leader? We decided to bed for the night and leave for their encampment in the morning.

We left early the next morning, and I was able to lead the party within spitting distance of our objective. The sneakiness of my allies somewhat surprised me, but we were able to get the drop on them. Syler and I attacked a kobold standing inside some sort of magic circle while Morthos and Balasar moved around to the right and engaged the enemies on our flank. The little halfling again proves himself capable in battle. His precision strikes help me strike killing blows against these foul little creatures. Morthos and Balasar seem to be making headway against the other forces as Balasar’s halberd cuts swaths through the enemy with Morthos’ leadership. Etholin seems to have the right idea in picking odd who he can from a distance with his arcane might. Perhaps this battle will be easier that I thought. The battle ended victoriously for us with the exception of a kobold slinger escaping into the waterfall that shielded their lair.

Etholin charged after the slinger into the waterfall only to flee again saying that our foes were many behind the curtain of water. I decided to see what all the fuss was about and charged into the waterfall only to be struck by a few javelins for my trouble. The rest of the group charged in haphazardly, and we soon found ourselves outnumbered and surrounded. The battle was intense. Morthos charged a group of minions but was in turn struck down by their multiple attacks as he was unable to fell them all. Note to self, don’t let the Warlord charge into combat. Being surrounded as he fell, I was unable to charge in and stand over his body. My blades would have loved to bathe in their blood in the aid of an ally. We soon found ourselves unable to fend of the attacks of our enemies. They seemed to just keep coming and before long a menacing Goblin wielding axes joined the fray against us. This was undoubtedly Irontooth. His axes bury themselves deep with in Balasar’s flesh as the other foes pummel away at the rest of the party. We succeeded in slaying Irontooth, but were soon sent into the darkness of unconsciousness by the remaining enemy. I can’t believe that we were that stupid. I guess Syler is just going to have to wait to pee on their heads until we can get out of this predicament.

What a lovely mess we have gotten ourselves into…
