The Dark

We have made progress this day. We continued our journey inside this prison as we have done for several days now, but this day is different. Today we have learned something of the nature of this place, and hopefully we can be more prepared for the future.

We moved past the library into the last door available in this area. It lead to a series of confined rooms, the first of which was trapped. A statue in the room started emanating a painful sound when we entered, and then we were set upon by more eaters of knowledge. The macaw was drawn to the statue, wanting to determine the nature of the trap so he could stop it. Birds have always been very curious animals, and Soveliss is no exception. There turned out to be a wizard among the enemy as well, as we learned when lightning flashed all around us. There was some trouble with the trap and some chasing around the rooms, but in the end we put them down. When the wizard died its spirit seemed to escape its body and flee to another part of the prison. A moment later my companions told me that he has been an aspect of Karavakos. This part of him had now been set free to join the real Karavakos.

So basically, the prison was not the only way in which Karavakos’ power was controlled. He was torn into several pieces, so to speak. In order to kill him, and get out of the pyramid, we have to put him back together again so he can be at full strength…

Who the the nine hells designed this place? I am certain now that it may reside in a former Temple of Melora, but she had nothing to do with its creation. The Goddess is much too intelligent to create a prison that tricks good people into releasing its prisoners. I pray we have the power to defeat a fully restored Karavakos… he used to command armies after all.

However, at least now we know… and we will be prepared.
