New Scenzan
New Scenzan
A medium sized coastal town, home to approx 1,200 people. New Scenzan has the largest static population of Halflings in Darkfell due to a high number of Yelnihas settlers and traders as well as being home to Salamon’s prison and the largest temple dedicated solely to St Cuthbert. The town itself is based around a set of ancient buildings and walls which the local Liel tribes previously referred to as Scenzan. The Liel themselves see the modern settlers in the town as little better than sacrilegious trespassers and shun the town, regarding as cursed. While most Salamons disregard this as superstitious bunk these is a suspiciously high number of unexplained disturbences in the town’s records…
The past of New Scenzan is fairly chequered, the ruins and the excellent natural docks attracted Yelnihas pirates who used the out-of-the-way spot for gatherings and to settle disputes. After Salamonis had been settled a group of Hieronyus judges moved to the ruins in an attempt to discourage such lawless behavior. Realistically they had no chance of ‘discouraging’ with only thier presence so the town quickly descended even further into street battles between the judges and the pirates. This state of violence lasted nearly 3 months before the then Governer of Salamonis ordered his troops in and put a stop to it all. The pirates relocated to Port Blacksand and New Scenzan was officially founded.
In the years since, New Scenzan has long forgotton its violent history, it is now a sleepy fishing town and central transport hub between Salamonis, Port Blacksand and Rose Falls. After the temple of Heironyus fell into disrepute, clerics of St Cuthburt took over thier temple-barracks. New Scenzan now boasts the largest dedicated temple to St Cuthburt in all of Darkfell and houses most of the regions more violent or dangerous criminals in secure, underground cells. Yondalla is also widely worshipped in the town due to its large halfling population and the town’s focus on agriculture, fishing and community spirit. A large and colourful market and circus sets up in New Scenzan’s market square nearly every Fairday which is attended by most of New Scenzan’s population.
