Misha Chapter Two
As the troll approached he polished off a monocle and brought it to his eye. He cleared his throat as his glance traveled along Misha’s body appraisingly. His index finger was tapping the monocle and a faint beeping could be heard as the device responded to his touch, undoubtedly scrolling through staff files.
“Ahhh… My dear Misha. Your file does not do you justice. I am Samuel and I believe I will be working fairly closely with you and your department over the next quarter. It is a pleasure to meet you.” He grinned wryly as he reached out to shake her hand.
“The quar… The quarter?” Misha stammered out as she both reached out to shake and tried to take a step back, bumping into the copier.
“Correct. Maybe even longer if we are lucky.” At that moment their hands met and augmented hearing was not needed to hear the crackle of electricity as Misha’s implanted stun glove triggered. Samuel tried to jerk his hand away, but the electricity contracted his muscles, leaving him with no choice but to hold on. The current flowed through him, sapping his strength and bringing him to his knees. Mustering his willpower, he was barely able to mutter the word “zanzipel”, but once it passed his lips he was able to slowly release his grip.
As he panted, as airily as possible, Misha tried to choke out an apology… “I’m, I’m just… I’m sor… It doesn’t..”
Cautiously raising back to his feet Samuel cleared his throat again and resumed speaking as if nothing had happened. “As I was saying,” his voice moving from slightly shaky to its normal troll strength, “I look forward to a lengthy time working with you. Obviously I still have some,” he chuckled, “additional familiarization to do with everyone’s dossier. I shall endeavor to take the proper precautions so we are not subject to this quandary when we next meet. Alas for now I must meet the rest of your team. We have a company car reserved for lunch, I will see you at 12:05.” With that he gave a slight nod of his head and then proceeded to the next employee on his list.
