Confederacy of Independent Systems
The Confederacy of Independent Systems, also known as the Confederacy, the CIS, the Seperatist Alliance, the Seperatists or the Seps for short was the political and government movement which sought to cede it’s vast number of member star systems from the Galactic Republic.
The leader of the movement from it’s infancy to it’s final year before his death was Count Dooku, the charismatic former Jedi Knight turned politician who sought liberate countless like-minded planetary, sectoral governments and galaxy spanning mega-corporations from the perceived corruption and rot of the ancient Galactic Republic.
The Confederacy’s desire to resort to military force to ensure their independence from the Republic however was eventually discovered by the Jedi Knights in the form of massive droid foundries creating massive numbers of Battle Droids for their Droid Army. This discovery lead eventually the the Galaxy spanning Clone Wars, which would last three years and claim billions of lives on both sides of the conflict.
With the help of Supreme Commander of the Droid Army General Grievous, the Confederacy scored multiple victories over the three year conflict coming very close many times to dealing a fatal blow to the Republic’s war effort. The war would eventually turn on the Confederacy however, with Dooku’s death at the Battle of Coruscant and Grievous’s death later on Utapau, the Confederacy fell into disarray and it would eventually surrender unconditionally following the deaths of it’s largest financial backers at the hand of the dreaded Darth Vader.
With the surrender of the Confederacy, it’s largest financial backers were mostly nationalized by the new Galactic Empire, and a great many of it’s member worlds were subjected to long term military occupations by Imperial Forces.
