The Calamity

The history of the world before the calamity is a long one. Humanity suffered 2 more global wars. The first was fought with advanced robotics. The second was fought with chemical and radiological weapons. All major population centers were destroyed, as were most of the regions of the world that could be used to rally people and boost their moral. This included, but was not limited to, the Vatican City, Mecca, Jerusalem and other such sites.

It took most hundreds of years for humanity to recover that, and reach what 21st century humans would consider a modern state. With fear of extinction ripe in the human mind, and ancient religions wiped out, people started helping each other. It could easily have been seen as the perfect socialist society, on a global level. When a conflict arose, ritual war was fought instead. The top best 5 soldiers from a particular region would engage in sport-war with the enemy.

Genetic modifications eventually became rampant, as an easier way to achieve what traditional medical chemical therapy would not for far fewer resources.

In the year 342AW a plan was put into motion to save humanity, or as much of humanity as could be saved, from a calamity that would cause humanity’s extinction. It was expected the survivors would awake several thousand years in the future, and rebuild humanity.
