Tales from the Black

Teslite is the name given to the genetically created creatures from the Alliance Experiment known as Project Dandelion. They are pale skinned with piercing red eyes, and a small red diamond-shaped gem in their foreheads. It has been noted that their blood is based upon Mercury in the same way that a humans blood is based upon iron.

Teslite Society recently suffered a setback when an unknown group of assailants damaged the master computer that controlled their society, and exposed most of the ’plex to vacuum before escaping. It is unknown what will become of these creatures in the future.

Former Teslite Society
Teslites have a life cycle similar in many ways to the Earth-That-Was butterfly. They are hatched from cloning pods as very young children, with a name and basic personality and knowledge of their society already imprinted into them. They are the equivalent in physical maturity as a human of approximately 10 years old when they are first birthed.

When the Teslite they are destined to replace in the “great machine” (as they think of their society) dies, or is permanently disabled in so far as they can no longer perform their appointed role, the servers that are buried under the Teslite Caught House flash the complete knowledge and experience of the Older Teslite into their young replacement and at the same time catalyse a physical change, absorbing additional mass from the environment to raise the perceived age of the Teslite from 10 human years, to 21 human years.

This way no important knowledge is ever lost, and all important functions of society continue on undeterred. It also makes murder within Teslite society unrealistic, as the new Teslite Clone would have the knowledge of the murder, and all the skills and abilities of the being who had been killed. Whenever a Teslite achieves its “adult” state, a new “junior” Teslite is automatically birthed to replace him.

All aspects of a society were recreated in the Teslite Skyplex. Police, government officials, husbands, wives, even scientists and engineers exist. Although the Sciences are limited, due to a programmed blind spot for the “higher sciences”. The wonders that the Teslites have achieved with electrical manipulation however, are outright amazing, and their Tesla weaponry are rumoured to be powerful and beautiful creations.

They understand the value of trade with other societies, much as the Victorians had the Colonies to trade with, Teslites will trade with other planets and ’plexes. What they have to trade however is very limited. They have farms which grow foodstuffs specifically for export, and the only other thing of value that they have are their weapons.

They do not understand high technology, so it is useful that most of the computerised controls that keep their society secure are self-repairing and automated, with only a bare minimum of interaction required from a Teslite overseer (called Nightshade), who is the only Teslite with any real knowledge about computers or advanced electronics.
