Geography The Baltan League is situated along the northern coast of the main central mass of the continent. A huge peninsula arcs out from east of the League to the northwest, forming a huge gulf with the League on the southern coast and Torheim to the north. This gulf is dotted with a few large islands. Immediately southeast of the League, bordered by the Whitehorn Wall, are the Whitehorn Mountains. These massive peaks shield a high and barren plateau. West of the mountains, the borderlands of the League are formed by low foothills and then a sweep of grassy terrain to the coast. Farther south, the Blue Dunes stretch forth to Cedron. In the volcanic reaches of the far south of the continent, dense jungle separates three ancient cities; the former capital of Ikharo, Seluna, nestled between sea and lake, and the island fort of Pelero.
History More than four hundred years ago, the dragonborn empire of Arkhosia dominated the area where the Baltan League is now. They ruled tolerantly, working especially with the dwarves and humans, but their grand alliance eventually fell into conflict with Bael Turath, a tiefling-led empire controlling the south. Simultaneous campaigns striking deep into enemy terrain led both empires into ruin, and the races dispersed across the continent, sometimes separating and sometimes creating new diverse communities. In the last few generations, predominantly human cities in the former domain of Arkhosia have risen to prosperity again, especially the city of Balta under the Borstres family. Under the lead of the late King Walnor the Wise, the nobles of the area made a peace treaty with the Nordic people of Torheim and their king, Haregard. A year after Walnor’s passing, the weakness of his son Walred threatens the peace, and other nobles scheme to gain power, while external dangers press at the League’s defenses.
Characters A diverse group of young adventurers has been caught up in protecting the area around Gundmark, near the Whitehorn Wall, from dangers close to home. An impetuous and fierce tiefling orphan, Makadia Rock, leads her companions, the halfling cleric of Avandra, Callie, and an amnesiac human warlock, Agon. They are joined by Alfred, an eladrin wizard, as well as Luna, a hard-hitting dragonborn ranger. Meanwhile, the proud Nordic barbarian, Hacon, encounters Clint, a clever but ambitious warlord, on the sands of the coliseum in Balta. What adventures await, what does destiny hold for these brave souls?
