The Chaos Effect

That was a nice finale. I’m kind of bummed that we didn’t get to see some of the scripted events we managed to prevent, but all in all it turned out well. While you turned on the pressure, I don’t think it was overwhelming enough to make the battle too difficult. From the fact that Ryan said he didn’t feel pressured at all, I believe you could’ve thrown more at us and we probably would have been OK.

I enjoyed the role-playing and the interactions with various characters in tonight’s game. The mentality of the group may not have matched up completely all the time but the general focus was there, enough so that we actually accomplished our goal. I look forward to a sequel to this story and continuing adventures in this world.

All joking aside, I think last night’s game went fairly smoothly. Except for the drowning, I don’t like drowning, =P. Although the choices we had to make were fairly straightforward there was some small amount of doubt as to whether or not we made the right choice, and that’s just fine with me. Our encounters forced us to use some daily powers when we don’t know what’s ahead and that’s kind of scary. Looking forward to the finale where we destroy the source of evil and attain godhood.

Had a good time last game. i didn’t anticipate that it would stay so cold out there. i confirmed with vicky that if it’s ridiculous cold again we can play inside. she asked that we dont be too loud, but im not to worried about it, once she gets to sleep she tends to sleep like a rock. looking forward to finding out whats going to happen on the island, and how the game is going to evolve after that (if we survive :) ) . yea good times.

Yeah, I agree for the most part. The encounter wasn’t bad considering I was working with loose change lol. So seriously now, do you think that I A) give you guys too much free time to do stuff? B) don’t reward you quickly enough for the things you do? (I think Ryan feels this way, maybe Kate too) C) should fast track stuff by saying “You get to know the Daeva, she seems pretty cool and a great help to the party.? Any ideas from my players?

I like the idea of e-mail encounters. Sounds like a lot of fun and i’m super down for it.

I had fun in the last session, lots of oppurtunity to roleplay and had a good time. I already mentioned that I didn’t feel the game flowed really well in the beggining, mix of in party bickering and new player and everything, wasn’t bad though and we recovered well. Flowed well closer to the end. The battle was again very well designed and we are getting better at streamlining our battles which is a good thing. I like how I look at minions and they die ^ ^. I’m actually looking forward to the upcoming game even though i’m guessing there are going to be a bunch of battles. I’m still excited to see where the story is going to take us. I really liked Miranda’s play style and her character (don’t remember name sorry). Brings a new interesting dynamic to the game.

To my players: I read something interesting at penny-arcade and wanted to share it with you. http://www.penny-arcade.com for Wednesday, November 4. Scroll to the bottom and read Gabe’s dnd post and follow the link. Would you be interested in doing this kind of thig or would it intrude too much upon your lives. I am not positive I can handle it too but it seems useful and his points seem valid. Anyway I am always open to things to make my game better.

I truly enjoyed the last session. It was refreshing to not have to have too much battle. I liked the way the map was laid out with all the dice and everything. Cool to have a visual for a mostly RPG session. I liked how you gave everyone a chance to talk about what they were doing so it wasn’t just 1 or 2 people dominating the rp’ing. I liked playing my character and getting the chance to be a little social butterfly lol. Good depth to the NPCs, well thought out and well planned encounter. Again, I wish we could start sooner, but sometimes that’s just the way it goes I suppose. GG

Yes great game! It looked as though everyone was having fun and finding things to do. I admit that I got some of my ideas from Gabe’s game http://www.penny-arcade.com/2009/10/14/ (skip down to the DND section for pictures and details) but I applied them in a very different way. I am looking forward to adding all of the Npc’s to OP as well as continuing to work on next session and fleshing out the world even more. Please continue to comment, write, and respond not only to me but to each other.

Responses to my players: Chrome- You all have been traveling and battling for several months, a ball seemed like a good way to lose some of that tension, and provide a way for you to make new contacts, friends, and allies within a city instead of leaving it as vacant rubble for once… if you know what I mean. Also I found out some very interesting things about your characters. Intriguing really.

Orog- The map is coming but we didn’t have a way to upload it here until I gave you my scanner. Perhaps during the next lab we can come up with a map of places you have been versus places that may have changed since the last cartographer had made his rounds. Generally speaking everything is worth one brownie point. I want to reward people for doing fun things that increase everyone’s enjoyment of the game as opposed to bribing them for grudging information.

Seven- I live to serve. Yes November 7th is the next planned game.

Albastra- I will do my best to give you role-playing feedback as often as you like. Privately though.

Thank you all, Your (mostly) humble DM

Last session was an interesting change of pace. In fact I don’t think I’ve ever been in a similar situation in any D&D game I’ve ever played. I really liked the map and how the dice placement really gave you a sense of what was going on. Orog was kind of out his element tho and I didn’t have much to do at first. That all changed at the end where he had a huge impact on events lol. Verdict: lots of fun but I wouldn’t want to do it every session. best use of indoor map in noncombat situation I’ve seen. P.S. I’m still waiting for map of campaign world. It would really help visualize things and wouldn’t give too much away as most nations/cities/elements/enviro are common knowledge.

I had a fun game tonight. I enjoyed the ball and the role-playing, even if all I did was dance. I did feel that the ball was a bit out of place within our storyline thus far though, and my character had no idea why this ball was happening or what he was supposed to accomplish there. Like a side-quest in an RPG; a giant calamity approaches the world and only you can stop it! Please collect these three hard to reach artifacts for me and I’ll give you a fluffy pink bunny as a reward. This bunny can sometimes eat your enemy.

Character builder tips: If you right click on a power in the character sheet in character creator, you can add a weapon + its damage to a card. Also you can move layout elements around and save layouts.

Last weeks game was a lot of fun again. I enjoyed getting to see our rogue at work doing what rogue’s do best, saving Demetrius :). We got down to business quickly and stayed focused, for the most part, throughout the mission. I enjoyed playing another character for a little while and think I added some depth to him. It kind of sucked that we got through what was written so quickly but that’s the way it goes sometimes I guess.

Well, it looks like everything has been covered already. I agree that it takes us too long to start the game. I would like to see us getting more into character and interact with each other a bit more. I know I really need to work on this. I liked Ken’s suggestion of going over how our character would react in different scenarios. It would be very helpful, I think. Everyone’s journals/bios are amazing.

Excellent, this is the kind of stuff that is both rewarding to read and let’s me know what works for you. Please don’t be afraid to talk about what you would prefer in a game. If it matters to you, it is important. I can’t respond to everything right away but Ken’s feedback, Ally’s and Malvedin’s journals and Orog’s new bio are exactly what I am looking for in the future. Thank you for participating. The one thing I can agree on right now is observers. I hate observers and only made one exception to that rule so far and I made it very clear to them that they were a HUGE exception to my strict no observer rule. Also Jon got moved to the back of the list for his “pwn u N rp-ing” speech. I try to be fair to all of my players but I don’t have to tolerate stupidity from idiots, especially one’s who are trying to get IN the game. Alright good games and thank you for your feedback so far! It helps.

Yeah I liked the whole getting into character part as well and I did find it kind of distracting to have people watching us. I’d like to hear more during our getting into character bit, like “imagine your character waking up in this setting after this event happened how you feel and what you plan on doing” etc.

(like Ken pointed out about role playing) When Ally is upset with another character it’s not me. The same goes for my journal entry and bio and will go for my future journal entries. I hope no one takes it personally because it really is not. And how Ally feels about your character is not how I feel about you as a person.

Yea ignore Jon he’s a total dumbass. Anyway I moved Orog’s improved bio to his bio page with improvements by me and chris.

In regards to the last game. I had a fun time while we were playing, as mentioned by Pascal I did not like how long it took us to get into the game or how long it took us to get back to game. If less time could be spent on seemingly unneccesary things I would appreciate it (walking the players through closing up the crypt and stuff, I would like to see, if there will not be a challenge involved, “okay everything is closed up” or something like that so we can get right back into the story, but just a friendly suggestion nothing that bothers me too much :)).

The change of venue messed us up and I felt slightly uncomfortable with those people watching us, plus at the end when that guy said he would own us all at rping, kind of pissed me off, and that was very disrespectful. Especially since the last time I played with him his character was so ridiculous it was comical, and the voices he used were even more ridiculous. I guess that means either he is just talking out of his ass or we REALLY suck at rping ;).

I would also like to see more roleplaying involved. I think the time spent closing eyes and getting back into character helped me out, though I felt kind of silly doing that while other people were watching. It helped me focus on what Demetrius would be doing in the situation presented to us instead of what Ken would be doing etc.

I wanted to suggest that we spend some time with each player, going over scenarios and how their characters would respond to those scenarios rather then how they personally would respond to those scenarios, that may help the roleplaying part overall. For example, “you walk by someone mugging someone in an alleyway, how would you respond? how would your character respond?” Those two answers should be different :). Maybe that will help us all gain a clearer idea of how we should roleplay our characters.

The battle was awesome and well designed. As Pascal mentioned near the end of the night, there was a whole lot of detail on the map for how short the battle was, but that’s the way it goes sometimes I guess. The cinematics were really cool, well done by Pascal Ryan and Chun describing their attacks. I also particularly enjoyed my mid-air battle with the Rage Drake, cinematic and fun. Even though Demetrius got kidnapped :(. I enjoyed that battle more then some of our previous ones just because the cinematics were more fun.

All in all, I had a lot of fun in the game really enjoyed it. Would like to see us all more focused and speaking in character more often. I am not Demetrius, so when Demetrius gets upset or frustrated in game realize it’s not Ken it’s Demetrius ;). Also, I would like to see more time for us to roleplay our characters. We have been fighting a lot of battles back to back recently. This fits in with what is currently happening in the story arc so it doesn’t bother me at all, but I just personally hope we get back to us figuring out what we’re going to do next, going to shops, garnering information etc. soon :)

Oh yeah, and hopefully we can start earlier, play longer and more people bringing snacks/food would be super awesome! ^ ^

All in all you’ve got a lot of information but there are still some pages you should probably add to make sure we’ve got a reference to work from with regards to our previous adventure and what we may do after our current one is done.

Count Branovich (sp?) and Mail should probably have their own pages as well as other notable individuals from Braxilius such as Brannigan (sp?) and Markus as those two are the main contacts of the current story arc. Also I’d like a page on that wizard’s city that Torch was all set on getting to, before his unfortunate accident…

Critique of game. 1.(classified) 2. we are taking really long to settle down and start the game i think we didn’t start til like nine o clock on sat. This partly because we had to make characters but I think everyone needs to work on this. 3. Still no campaign world map, I’d really like this 4. Really liked the zombie swarm and the husks from last game. I like to see Chris making use of strange new undead monsters. 5. I think I’d like to see more people getting into character myself included.
