Sam'ael returns from Shadowfell Keep
Upon arriving an exhausted Sam’ael has rushed to his father’s home and just finished explaining how his mother has stayed behind to guard the gate until more reinforcements could arrive. Hearing this, the grizzled and retired warrior’s crimson skin seems to sag; the age lines seem all the more obvious as he had turned from his son and walked over to a nearby chest. “You’re mother was right….she warned me of your destiny…her people have always been soothsayers of a sort…I’d hoped she was wrong. The gate is opening…there is no time. At the very least I’d hoped you would have had time to vet yourself on the field.” All the while the old warrior had been rifling through the opened and ancient chest. As a child, Sam’ael had been forbidden to open it’s contents and had always been fascinated by the old footlocker. Up until now had only seen it opened once before; Just weeks before, his father had taken the key he always kept securely tied around his neck from it’s leather thong, opened the cache and presented his son with his old gear. Now, today as he replaced the beaten but still fine armor into the chest, the warrior seemed out of sorts. Finally, he paused, returned to his full stature and locked his remaining orb onto his son’s. Akemonos smiled, revealing a mouthful of teeth better designed to shred meat than grind plants, “I speak too hastily my son, any one can see that you’ve met foes on the field of battle and triumped. Even now, you and your friends are all that stands between Orcus and his goal of worldwide conquest … The Guardians of the Gate indeed!” As he spoke, it seemed to Sam’ael that his father had never looked so young or dangerous. Akemonos continued in a deep, almost growl, “In any event, the time has come that I pass on to you the Hellpath Tome. Centuries ago, the minions of Asmodeus taught our people the ways of battle. Although we had conquered all we had surveyed, we had never seen tactics as brutal…or efficent as these. Our Ancestor, Malachi, had the forsight to copy this strateiges down. Read this and learn, but beware that you remember who you are and why you fight … Malachi was an unimagiably talented leader, but over the years he was one of the key architects to our nation’s demise. It is for us to reclaim our honour and find a better place for all Tieflings. You and I, and all the others who have come out of the dark, now we are citizens of the world, not tyrants. Nevertheless, learn what you can and destroy your enemies! It is what we do…it is why we were made!” Finished, the old man warmly clasped his sons arms, handed the tattered, ancient tome and turned toward his favorite chair. Although moments ago he had seemed in the prime of his life, he now returned to his natural state…an old, but ever proud soldier. “Now go,” he commanded. Without a thought, Sam’ael spun on his heel, and marched out. When the general spoke, all were well advised to listen!
