The Cost of Fidelity

Operation Falconeer was a Maycon military operation with dual purpose. First and foremost it was an attempt to catch one of Drenin‘s commanders. This commander had been given the codename of The Vulture by Maycon Intelligence due to the fact bodies were never found within his area of operations, suggesting that he was having them collected, though no sightings of undead were ever reported. The second purpose of this operation was to take The Vulture’s command post which could serve is a Forward Base of Operations for Maycon troops.

The basic outline of the Operation was to send three brigades with support from the SOC to assault the command post. During the armies assault a SOC member, named O’Brien, and The Broken Dawn would make their move and infiltrate the command post using the assault as a diversion. Their single goal was to find and capture The Vulture. Should the main force take the command post then The Broken Dawn would regroup with them. If the main forces failed to take the command post then The Broken Dawn and their guide would be forced to find their own way out.

No Drenin commander had ever been taken alive by Maycon’s military until this operation. The Broken Dawn succeed in their task of capturing The Vulture. However it came at a cost, the members of The Broken Dawn lost not only Corporal O’Brien but one of their own as well, Gerard Bateson. Those two brave men stood of Drenin troops in order to give The Broken Dawn the time it needed to escape with its prize. The Broken Dawn‘s losses were not the only ones. The assaulting force was routed just after breach the command post’s walls. Victory had looked to be a sure thing when elite Drenin reinforcements materialized within the command post, lead by none other than Zacchaeus. Who proceed to annihilate Maycon‘s troops, chasing them down until he meet stiffer resistance in Lieutenant Pierce Ballatine’s Brigade. Though Zacchaeus and his men killed all but fourteen of Ballatine’s Brigade they weren’t able to get by and the rest of Maycon’s troops were able to fall into an organized retreat.

The Broken Dawn having managed to escape capture by Drenin‘s pursuing forces journeyed through The Ruins of Ithlea back towards the safety of Maycon. They were soon intercepted by two members of the SOC who found them using some strange locator device Corporal O’Brien had apparently placed among their gear. The two SOC members, Scott and Holly, took possession of The Vulture and teleported back to Maycon. Unable to take The Broken Dawn with them, they resupplied them, and gave them a map with the best directions back to the rally point.

It is during The Broken Dawn‘s journey back that they discovered Cadaver Collectors picking the fields of battle clean of all the bodies and subsequently followed the construct back to its master, Malik Silverpalm, who had taken up residence inside Carric Engstorm’s Lab
